Over 5,000 leave for Holy Cave Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, July 27: With eighth batch of 5,429 pilgrims leaving the Base Camp of M A Stadium for the Holy Cave this morning, the rush of incoming Amarnath pilgrims is considerably increasing by every passing day. This is for the second day that over 5,000 pilgrims left for the darshan of Icy Lingam since the month long yatra started on July 19. Yesterday also over 5,000 pilgrims left the M A Stadium for the Holy Cave. Prior to it 6,000 yatris left for Amarnath on July 23 after the yatra was suspended temporarily on July 22 due to inclement weather. The increasing rush is to such a capacity that some community halls and buildings identified by the Government for the haltage of yatris are full to their capacity. There were over 400 pilgrims staying in the Chanderbagha Community Hall at Canal today morning but after a group of 200 pilgrims were allowed to make entry in the M A Stadium later in the afternoon, this number has come down to 273. However, unabated rush continued as large number of pilgrims who reached the City of Temples late in the evening also made their way to the Community Hall for the night haltage. Two Yatri buses and a Tata Somo carrying pilgrims from Gujarat were also parked in the backyard of the Hall. Same rush was at Aggarwal Dharam Sabha and other community halls in the City. Three buses carrying the pilgrims were parked near the Aggarwal Dharam Sabha while equal number was lying near Vivekananda Chowk this evening. There is such an increasing enthusiasm among the Amarnath bound pilgrims that many have risked to travel hundreds of kilometres to Jammu from far flung areas of the country without registration. A group of 60 pilgrims who have reached here yesterday from Somnath in Gujarat and were staying at Chanderbagha Community Hall could not get themselves enrolled for the yatra in their home state by July 15. But the devotion of Lord Shiva risked them to travel without registration. According to the group head Parshotam Raj Waghela "we applied for registration in our home state but could not get it, hence we came without registration, . Now the authorities have assured us here to issue the registration card tomorrow so that we can have the darshan of Icy Lingam, beamed Waghela added. But the story of Jaswant Rana is quite different. Rana leads a group of 55 pilgrims from Ahemadabad, Gujarat. He was not knowing that depending for registration on a travel agent will land him in Police Station at Jammu. Talking to this correspondent he said we managed all the registration cards of 55 pilgrims through Vipul Travels Ahmedabad but after reaching here we were caught by the authorities on July 23 as all cards were fake. Jaswant has to pay a heavy price as he had to pass five days in police lock up here. However, he who was all praise for the courtesy shown by Jammu Police to him and was optimistic to leave for darshan tomorrow along with the other group mates on the basis of assurance given by authorities. Police seized two buses of travel agencies in M A Stadium this morning during the departure of yatra for the Holy Cave. One bus which had boarded pilgrims from Delhi was detained in the Stadium after its driver failed to produce the documents. Later it was taken to Police Station. But the yatris boarding it were accommodated in other buses. Second bus belonging to Hari Travels bearing Number DLIP/A-6069 which had issued the tickets to 26 passengers for Pahalgam was seized by police as its driver failed to turn up even one hour after the entire cavalcade of 322 vehicles left the Stadium this morning leaving the passengers in a state of shock. Later the driver was nabbed by police. He was detained and the vehicle seized. The pilgrims also complained that the travel agent had charged Rs 300 from each of them earlier but later he returned Rs 50 to each yatri after the intervention of some Shiv Sena leaders. After the departure of yatris in the morning and complete security check of the Stadium, the authorities allowed the pilgrims entry in the Stadium late in the afternoon and by the evening about 100 LMVs and dozens of buses had entered the Stadium for their onwards sojourn to Pahalgam tomorrow. There was also a huge rush of incoming pilgrims as a large number of them including Sadhus were waiting at the Stadium Gate for their entry inside throughout the day. Not satisfied with the arrangements some pilgrims have demanded installation of another STD/ISD booth in the Stadium for their convenience. They alleged that one installed there is not sufficient to cope up with the increasing rush of pilgrims. They also demanded bettering of sanitation facilities and improvement of water supply in the Stadium. Meanwhile, reports coming from Anantnag said that all the yatris have reached the Nunwan Base Camp and Srinagar late in the evening. An official spokesman said that the weather from Pahalgam to Holy Cave was cloudy and there were showers of rain at different places enroute to Holy Cave during the day. |

Declare entire Kandi belt as drought-hit: Sharma Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, July 27: Mr Dharam Pal Sharma, former MP and senior Congress leader conducted an extensive tour of Kandi areas of Akhnoor tehsil. PK asks RSS to clear stand on future of Kashmiri Hindus Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, July 27: In view of negation of Homeland demand by Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in its recent Executive meeting at Kurukeshtra Haryana, the Panun Kashmir (PK) has urged the Sangh to clear its stand on the future of displaced Kashmiri Hindus. Expressing serious concern over the negation of Homeland demand by the RSS in Kurukeshtra and subsequent meetings later on, Dr Agnishekhar, convenor Panun Kashmir said the Kashmiri Hindus feel let down by Sangh. Ridiculing the role of RSS on the reorganisation of J&K, he said it was unfortunate that on one side it (RSS) is claiming to be the champion of Hindutva and on the other it is harming the cause of Kashmiri Hindus who have been the worst suffers of the Pan Islamic terrorism. Talking to this correspondent, the PK leader said Kashmiri Hindus are committed to Homeland which is the only alternative to their geo-political aspirations. In response to a question on the demand of "safe and dignified return of the displaced Kashmiri Pandits to Valley", he remarked "what does that mean". "Hurriyat also says that KPs are part and parcel of Kashmir but in the heart of hearts they are not ready to accept us then what is difference between the stand of two organizations", he said. It is ridiculous of talking about "dignified return" and that too after over a decade, to a place where the Pan Islamic fundamentalists rule roost, he said. By supporting the separate statehood to Jammu and U T Status to Ladakh, the RSS as a supporter of Hindu cause should have also taken into consideration the demand of Kashmiri Pandits.a homeland for them within Valley with total control of the Center. Dr Agnishekhar regretted that the Vishwa Hindu Parishad which has in its Ranchi resolution supported the Homeland demand, diluted its stand later under the influence of the Sangh. He, however, asserted that PK has not launched the battle for the Homeland on any bodys support but our organization is committed to it and every Kashmir Hindu will struggle for achieving this goal till finish. Justifying the Homeland demand for over seven lakh Kashmiri Pandits, he said when trifurcation demand is justified why not the quadruplication of the State. "We firmly believe that the State be divided into four parts, i. e statehood to Jammu, U T Status to Kashmir and separate Homeland for Pandits in Valley. " Expressing his dismay over the role of Sangh he said, RSS propagates cultural nationalism but when it comes to Kashmir, this is converted into territorial nationalism. While terming the role of RSS as unfortunate Dr Agnishekhar said it has failed Hindus of Kashmir and its stand on reorganization is anti Kashmiri Pandit in content. He said the recent developments in light of RSS support has led the Kashmiri Hindus to make rethinking with regard to their fate and future in J&K and whole of country, as KPs are feeling alienated from the main stream. He said we appreciate the aspirations of people of Jammu and Ladakh who have been facing discrimination at all levels but at the same time the Sangh should have also taken our aspirations into consideration as KPs are a homeless community. He said KPs should contemplate their new alignment under the prevailing circumstances. On the demand of constituencies in exile, he said in 1995 an attempt was made by RSS to dilute the political thrust of Panun Kashmir through a group of individuals.
