Shah for introducing Biotechnology for
safe guarding waterbodies

Excelsior Correspondent

SRINAGAR, Oct 17: With the availability of Biotechnology its full use should be made in preserving and rejunivating the deteriorating waterbodies in the State. This was stated by the Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Shah here today.

Presiding over a meeting to discuss the role of chemical enzymes in safeguarding the waterbodies, Mr. Shah said that before taking measures for introducing the biotechnology in checking the pollution of waterbodies, the factors and conditions favouring the increasing water pollution should be properly examined.

He said that involvement of NGOs and other voluntary organisation in cleaning Dal and Nagin Lakes have yielded better results and stressed upon Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LWDA) to speed up the deweeding and dredging work in these lakes.

Thousands of tonnes of silt is getting sedimented in the Dal and Nagin Lake annually due to the inflow of the sewerage and other wastes from the catchment areas in these lakes.
