Ensure a dignified life

Sir,

''It is better to die once for all than to live in continual fear''.

It is high time for India and Pakistan to join hands and come to the negotiating table and sort out the differences with a positive mind as much blood has been spilled on earth due to the intransigent attitude of the both. Nothing is lost as yet if they understand the vicious mechanism of America and switch over to the path of reconciliation and understanding to bail out the countries from morass and mayhem.

The entire world is under the threat of terrorism and each terrorist movement in each state has a separate cause and background behind it. To fight it out at Global level it is alright, let us also try to solve the issue at regional state level too so that things are settled mutually in right perspective. We have a peculiar situation in the state. The germ of discard was sown by the political leaders who nurtured with political tricks with the result it has become an endemic followed by ethenic cleansing. Terrorism has reached to such an awful height where death is no consideration nor considered a fearsome prospect. Naturally, the menace of terrorism needs to be tackled meticulously.

We have poverty in plenty. India is a rich country with tremendous resources but withering for want of sufficient attention resulting in the complete breakdown of economic security. 60 percent of the population go without food for the second meet of the day One-fourth population dwell in slums and sleep of footpaths, under bridges and this is what we have achieved after independence. A mild slap has awakened the USA when we have been facing unimaginable terrors and challenges for the last 12 years which has eaten our vitals. Only the wearer knows where the shoe pinches.

Prejudices die hard and when tempered with religion die harder. People through religion have woven a web of indoctrination around themselves and now find it difficult to free themselves from its clutches. To deal with all this is not an easy game. The only solution to the problem lies in the delivery of economic security with political and economic rights.

A broad based policy is required to emancipate human souls from poverty. And at the same time an individual made to realize that even an individual has a right to ask for the basic amenities of life. The denial of fundamental rights to the individuals is one of the primary causes of terrorism. We need to fight it out by transforming empty and hungry man into a dignified product of wealth and production.

This all is possible when we promise for a clean, transparent and accountable society with guaranteed constitutional rights for one and all.

In the backdrop of it, I appeal to all matured politicians, leaders and intellectuals to spare some thought to bring all like minded people together believing in faith and reason.

Pursuing Personal Agenda

Sir,

The establishment of credible links between the ISI Chief Lt Gen. Mahmood, Umar Sheikh, one of the three terrorist released in Indian Airline hijack fiasco in 1999 and Mohd Atta, one of the participants in Black Tuesday strikes in US, shall serve as an eye opener to world community. It substantiates Indian charge that the Indian Airlines TC-814 plane hijack was sponsored by Pakistani Intelligence Agency, ISI. America remained indifferent to India's charge and woke up only when terrorists hit at ''World Trade Centre and Pentagon'' symbols of economic and defence supremacy of America respectively. Every human sympathised with America.

America committed herself to lead the world in rooting out menace of terrorism from the globe. It gave a ray of hope to the nations such as India, who are facing the terrorism for years together. In past, America had been condoning Islamist terrorism for her strategic interests to destablise cold war enemies.

But the way America chose Pakistan as a strategic partner in war against terrorism, the American commitment has become doubtful. There are apprehensions that America may fight for her own interests only.

Pakistan is the hub of terrorism and Taliban is only a creation of Pakistan. To punish Laden and Taliban, if America encourages Pakistan for her own interests, it amounts to nourishing roots of terrorism.

Only days after terrorist attack on J&K Assembly, Parvez Musharraf stated that Kashmir cannot be identified with terrorism and Azhar Masood, who's Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed responsibility of the suicide attack, is the honoured guest of Pakistani state.

America may have compulsions to take Pakistan as its partner in fight against Taliban. But, if America is sincere to her commitment of stamping out menace of terrorism, Bush shall openly describe happenings in Kashmir as terrorism and ask Pakistan to demolish terrorist training camps. Otherwise, America is passing her own agenda and has no right to describe it as war against Terrorism and seek support of world community.

Lifting sanctions

Sir,

America has finally announced the lifting of sanctions imposed on India in the wake of 1998 Pokhran II nuclear blasts after months of vaciliation, thus paving the way for transfer of technology in many fields.

It has rightly been said in the editorial 'Evil Sanction' DE dated 26th September, 2001, that the embargos imposed on India has actually affected the American industry more than did the Indian industry. The Indian industry, being sufficiently resilient and self-relaint did not find much difficulty in withstanding these sanctions and because of this reason these embargos reflecting the arrogance of the superpower got neutralized from the day these were imposed. This eventually lead America to realize the futility of the continuation of these imposed sanctions.

Then why America has such provisions in its country's law. The answer lies in the fact that the sole purpose of the super power is to continue its hegemony over the sovereign developing countries of the world. And in order to ensure the perpetuation of its country's monopoly they refrain the other developing countries of the world through the medium of these sanctions from their progressive march on the economic and military front so that the world continue to be unequal, abnormally tilted globe as rightly mentioned in the editorial.

While no nations will envy the economic and military might of America and its claim of being a super power, but the other sovereign nations of the globe are equally within their right to march ahead on the path of progress. Therefore, the imponderables in terms of these sanctions thrown in the way of sovereign developing countries of the world smacks of ulterior motives not conducive to world peace.

What a strange justice!, while you may develop all the deadly weapons of mass destruction for its national security and scare the world for any misadventure against her and at the same time you restrict others from doing so on the plea that it may lead to an arms race.

There was doubt if these sanctions would have been lifted but for the unfortunate happening of Sept 11.
