Hijack drama
Sir,
It refers to
hijack drama of Alliance Airlines plane. Episode
should be taken as blessing in disguise to serve
as some real exercise for any such actual
happening. It was most satisfying that all
agencies and persons (including even the Prime
Minister) proved to be alert, which could never
be possible in a mock exercise! However
over-reaction and anguish of the Prime Minister
after the episode, may prove costly. Because the
pilots and other concerned persons/agencies may
be over-cautious to timely react in case of real
future hijacks. Prime Minister should have rather
congratulated those who participated in this
'real' exorcise!

Kashmir crisis
Sir,
India has
exhibited more than enough patience in tackling
the worsening situation in Kashmir due to the
continued insurgency, instigated, abetted,
promoted and financed from across the border,
giving rise to many appalling speculations. Or
there can be enough reasons to infer, that the
mighty State of India has failed in protecting
life, property, honour and dignity of its''
innocent citizens. People who have been forced to
evacuate under threat and point of gun are a
frightened lot and show no inclination to return
to their homes. And how can they be asked to jump
into a cauldron? In their natural desire simply
to hold on to their lives, they are unable to
take care of preserving their ages old ethnic and
cultural identity, under various placement,
social, and financial stresses and strains.
After all what is
the problem with Kashmir ? Can anybody contest
that Jammu and Kashmir is not the integral part
of India by dint of history, geography and legal
process of accession ? There is absolutely no
scope of invalidating or reversing the act of
accession.
May be that even
being part of India, there could have been an
impossible temptation, on the part of some
elements to merge with Pakistan, had there been
more prosperity there or instead of water, milk
flowing through their rivers. But that is not the
case. They are placed worse as compared to us.
As is evident
Kashmir has no specific problems or any more
grave problems that what are being faced, in
other parts of the country, such as poverty and
unemployment, which could have unjustifiably
provided an excuse for the current upheaval.
So what is
happening in Kashmir is no indigenous movement of
seeking more rights, privileges or liberties.
Apart from what rights and privileges are
guaranteed to an Indian citizen in the
constitution, Kashmiris enjoy additional
concessions by virture of article 370.
Then what is this
death and destruction about? It is sheer infused,
indoctrinated and imposed communalism, as a part
of Pan Islamic movement. India cannot fight this
menace alone, as there are international
involvements and commitments. All the peace
loving, democratic secular nations of the world
need to join their hands to fight these
disruptive elements to culmination to ensure
peace, progress and plenty on this beautiful
planet of ours.
