Plain-speaking on country's integrity

Sir,

The time taken by the United States in waging a war against Al-Qaida network and Taliban was nothing but a hectic exercise to drum up the support from Pakistan which has the roots of a global terrorism tree. The forbidden fruits of which have been tasted by America on Sept. 11, 2001. America has reasons to celebrate that it has succeded in buying the loyality of Pakistan for crores of dollars. The sell out of Pakistan once again exposes the characterlessness of Pakistani rulers who do not hesitate to betray its bossom friends in need. The Pakistani rulers ostensibly would like to get a credit from its boss US that it has supported it in fighting a war against the terrorists who attacked the twin towers of World Trade Centre and Pentagon.

It will be in the fitness of the things to mention that the Americans are sensitive to the Pakistani ISI pro-bin-Laden elements. Even while the US officials will continue to maintain in public that US.Pakistan intelligence cooperation is going on well, the US will be very much careful and hypersensitive in accepting at face value any intelligence inputs offered by the Pakistani ISI without independent verification.

The US strategy to cultivate Pakistan in the war against the Taliban regime makes a tactical and strategic sense.

The helplessness of General Musharraf has encouraged the US to extract permission from Pakistan to overfly its air space for conducting operations against the Taliban.

By offering its support of all sorts to the US, Pakistan President General Parvez Musharraf expects that there will be some kind of deal on Kashmir issue which was down placed at Agra. Let us warn Pakistan and US plainly that any design against the Indian interests and its integrity will never be allowed to succeed. Americans might have by now understood the ugly game the Pakistan is playing with rest of the world.

India must fight terrorism of its own which is eating its roots and should not really depend on others who have their own are to grind while speaking on the terrorism in India. Our Prime Minister has rightly said that we should not let countries persue their own terrorist agenda under cover of global action.

By supporting the US, the dangers to Musharraf's regime have not entirely evaporated but the ethenic links between the Afghans and the Pakistani Army including Jehadis pose the most obvious potential source of trouble.

Rehbar-e-Taleem scheme

Sir,

The Rehbar-e-Taleem Scheme launched by the Education Minister Mr. Mohd Shafi has begun yielding result.

The students of rural areas are now able to continue their studies, because there were no teachers in the schools which remained closed for the last so many years. Moreover, the local teachers know better than others how to handle the students because they know their weak points very well. Due to this scheme the strength of the students in almost every school is increasing. Even from the literacy rate recorded in Jammu District, you can see that it has increased to 77.3 percent in 2000-2001 which was 60 percent in 1998-99. It is only due to the efforts of State Government and the schemes which they have implemented. We, the people of rural areas (most backward areas) are very thankful to Education Minister Mr. Mohd Shafi for implementing Rehbar-e-Taleem Scheme. We hope that he will continue to do the same work to improve the standard of education in J&K.

Root cause of terrorism

Sir,

The Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah urged America (DE Sept 26, 2001) to strike on the root cause of international terrorism viz. Centres of indoctrination in several countries which is the real source of the catastrophe and Osama-bin-Laden is only a symbol of the evil. In this connection my submission is that the root cause of this is the injustice, inequality caste, ceed and colour bases which is going on from the time immemorial but now it has crossed all limits. neither any one wants to become terrorist nor his parents allow him to do so but when all hopes of youths of their bright future are dashed to the grounds, they fall pray to the anti-social elements who lure them with promises and money for which wrong policies of the rulers/politicians are responsible as they always remain committed only to the welfare of themselves, and their kith and kin.

Further, it is submitted that if terrorism could have been crushed by the Military action alone, then communist world not have come to power in China, Veitnam, Laos or in Cuba. And if a tough line alone could work then Algeria and Zimbabve would never have got their independence. A rigid and uncompromising line always results inthe problem becoming more complicated. The need of the hour is that both Pakistan and India should learn from history and there is no sense of spilling blood every day as human lives are not meant to be wasted to serve the interests of selfish politicians. Therefore, leaders of both the countries should not runaway from the truth and also not forget that if they do not find solution themselves, history could do it for them some day.
