Debate competition organised at MIER Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 4: The senior school wing of the Model Institute of Education and Research (MIER) organised a debate competition. As per a release, the topic of the debate was "Coaching centres are menance for spread of real education". There were 11 contestants who were drawn from 9th, 10th and 11th classes. Six of them spoke in favour and the remaining five against the topic. Some argued that most of the teachers of today have become money makers and run coaching centres privately in the evening and morning hours and dont impart real education in the class. Others advocated that private coaching centres exploit the students by giving them their own condensed notes and solved guess papers for cramming. Other speakers gave their own arguments that in the present time of high competition, the teaching institutes maintain their dignity by imparting quality and real education through their highly qualified and dedicated staff but it is the fault of the parents who compell their children to join coaching classes right from nursery to higher classes just to show to others that they are spending a lot of money on the education of their wards. The special feature of the debate was that almost all the speakers were fully prepared and they gave sound and pressing arguments and proved that what they said was a reality. Mrs Suman Yadav was the chief guest on the occasion. The debating function was organised by Mrs Sunita Kaul and Mrs Usha Bhan, Vice-Principals.
