Hepatitis-B
Vaccination campaign
Sir,
The Industries and
Commerce Minister Dr. Mustafa Kamal launched
Hepatitis-B vaccination campaign in Jammu
province on November 7 which had already been
launched in Kashmir Province on 14th Sept. by the
Chief Minister. The campaign has been organised
by the functionaries of health and medical
education department in collaboration with the
multinational pharmaceutical firms like
WOCKHARDT. The Company is providing vaccines on
highly subsidized rates, the average cost is one
third of the normal cost.
It is all to make
the J&K State Ist Hepatitis-B free State in
the country. Dr. Kamal hoped that India the 2nd
most populous country of the world could be made
Hepatitis -B free by such coordinated efforts.
But to achieve the target there is strong need
for educating the people about the dangers of
Hepatitis-B virus. The people should know that
persistant infection of Hepatitis-B virus in body
causes chronic liver diseases such as cirrhosis
and liver cancer. They should know that it is 100
times more infectious than AIDS and its tough
virus survives on dry surfaces for at least one
week. It is widely prevalent in the county and
one in every 25 Indians is a carrier of Hepatitis
-B virus.
To achieve the
target of making J&K State Ist Hepatitis -B
free State in the country and to prevent himself
from Hepatitis B infection every body should be
got vaccinated. There is no treatment of this
disease except its vaccination of full course of
all three infections. Half treatment is useless,
so get full course and also tell your relatives
and neighbourers to get full course of its
vaccination.
It has been seen
that poor people are avoiding to get themselves
vaccinated. It is perhaps due to the lack of
money. So Govt. should make it free of cost at
least for the people living below poverty line if
not possible to all.
Yours etc...
