Massive dharna out-side Parliament on November 19,20
JKNF to intensify on-going agitation for reorganisation

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Nov 17: To highlight the step motherly treatment meted out to the Jammu and Ladakh region of the State, the Jammu Kashmir Nationalist Front has decided to organise a dharna in front of the Parliament on the first day of winter session of the session.

Addressing a press conference, convenor of the JKNF, Mr Tilak Raj Sharma said, "in the ongoing movement undertaken by the JKNF for the reorganisation of J&K State, the leaders and workers of the Front will be proceeding to the national capital, Delhi to sit on dharna for 48 hours on the opening day of the winter session of the Parliament on November 19 and 20 as per the already announced programme.

Mr Sharma said that participants belonging to all the districts of Jammu region include all communities as well as women will participate in dharna.

"While on dharna the issue of reorganisation of the state thereby creating separate states for Jammu, Kashmir and Union Territory for Ladakh will be highlighted with facts and figures pertaining to discrimination and injustice meted out to the people of Jammu and Ladakh for the last 54 years by the successive State Governments", he said.

Mr Sharma further said that taking into consideration the present national and international scenario with regard to terrorism particularly the impetus of militancy in the State of J&K, the reorganisation of the State of Jammu and Kashmir seems to be the only viable and effective solution to the menace.

JKNF convenor further said that a high level delegation of the JKNF, after the dharna, will also meet and discuss the problem with the leaders of all political parties, intellectuals, media persons and eminent persons in the different areas of public life.

Taking strong exception of the statement of Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah regarding demand of autonomy, Mr Sharma said that it was a matter of regret that Dr Abdullah, who poses to be the ultra nationalist in his utterances, has again raised the bogey of autonomy thereby striving to infuse a new life in the ranks and files of the separatist elements and providing handle to the anti-national forces who are meeting their fate on account of the global war against terrorism and fundamentalism. He said that autonomy was a non issue not only for the people of Jammu and Ladakh but also for the Kashmir also.

JKNF expresses its serious concern on the reopening of the otherwise dormant issue of the Resettlement Act, which, if implemented, will open floodgates of serious consequences of unparallel dimensions and endangering the unity, national integrity as well as security of the country. He declared that JKNF will take up the issue forcefully with national leadership.

JKNF leaders reiterated their demands that Governor rule should be implemented in the State before holding of Assembly elections. "Free and fair elections are impossible under Farooq Abdullah’s regime", Mr Sharma said and cautioned the Centre against allowing NC to rig the forthcoming polls.

VHP terms Resettlement Act as anti-Hindu

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Nov 17: J&K unit of Vishav Hindu Parishad (VHP) has demanded that J&K Resettlement Act should be repealed forthwith to end any uncertainty among the people at large in general and those settled for the last 54 years on evacuee lands in the border areas in particular.

According to a press release, VHP said that any move to allow those who had migrated to Pakistan in 1947 or their inheritors to comeback to the state, settle here and stake claim to the properties will open Pandora’s box. It will let in motion a State of uncertainty and insecurity among the people here. VHP observed that any move by the State Government to permit their entry into J&K and confer citizenship rights to them and transfer the property right on them on evacuee land and property will resisted with all the force.

The release further stated that the Bill passed in 1982 by the NC Government with the motive to create communal polarization and deprive the minority Hindus of their rights. It was recalled that a strong agitation was launched against the Bill in Jammu as a result of which it was sent by the President to the Supreme Court for its opinion.

At this stage when Pakistan sponsored terrorism in the State is at its height any move to implement the settlement law will provide fodder to the canon of ISI gameplan.

VHP further stated that the law itself was to diabolic conspiracy by the communal motivates NC Government to endanger the interest of Hindus in the state and reduce them in further minority and create conditions for their migration from the State. Trifurcation solution of J&K problem: JKNF

Excelsior Correspondent

KATHUA, Nov 17: Mr Kapil Dev, member of J&K Nationalist Front has claimed that tri-furcation is the only solution of the vexed Jammu and Kashmir problem.

Addressing a meeting organised to mobilise public opinion on statehood for Jammu, Mr Kapil Dev said that all the three regions of the J&K have different culture, language and history. These three distinct political entities were brought under one political entity by Maharaja Gulab Singh. Geographically Jammu is divided from Kashmir Valley by Pir Panjal, while Ladakh is divided by Zojila Pass.

Jammu regions has been spread over an area of 26,293 sq km, Kashmir valley has an area of 15, 858 sq km while Ladakh is spread over an area of 59, 241 sq kms. Jammu’s area is almost double than the Valley and both these regions have almost same population. Despite this all Jammu has only 37 assembly seats whereas Valley has 42 and Ladakh only four seats. Jammu region has two Lok Sabha seats, Kashmir have three whereas, Ladakh only one.

Under these circumstances, allotting of 46 assembly and three Lok Sabha seats to Kashmir and only 73 and 2 to Jammu , is a gross injustice and discrimination against Jammu region. This discrimination in the number of seats in the state assembly and Lok Sabha puts Jammu at political disadvantage and it is deprived of equitable share in power. With leader of the ruling party and the Chief Minister always from Kashmir, Jammu’s political importance has remained undermined. Only separate statehood would provide justice to the people here, he maintained.
