Front for Resolve of JK issue hails proposed Indo-Pak move

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, May 27: The Front for Trilateral Resolution of J&K Problem, in the wake of resumption of Indo-Pak talks held its view that Prime Minister Mr Vajpayee’s invitation to Gen Musharraf and the latter’s willingness to accept the offer are welcome moves, because they correspond with the demands of existing multi-dimensional JK realities.

In a release the Front held the view that though the moves are overdue, yet it is better late than never. the release said given the near about two years of highly tense Indo-Pak relations, it is only the compulsions of the global, national and ground situations that have forced the two countries especially the later to take the dialogue route. The only lesson that we can draw from this episode is that one should avoid doing things which make him prisoner of his own follies.

Front release said sometimes even the abrupt happenings can also lead to the desirable results, but, given the respective traditional attitudes of the two sides remaining in place and the probability of the ground realities in their respective countries becoming tight for the two ruling groups in the days ahead, there was little likelihood of the dialogue process leading to any significant outcome.

However the Front considered the occasion as a good opening for mobilizing the people in favour of a realistic, just and peaceful solution. The release said the Front stands for an agenda which accords with the realities of JK problem, invites view, a realistic way to resolve JK problem lies in trilateral dialogue. It added that the most appropriate answer to JK Problem rests with its trilateral solution and the future of Jammu Kashmir, India and Pakistan lies in shared development.

The Front suggested that the respective national aspiration and Interests of india and Pakistan be balanced by jointly entrusting to them J&K’s sovereignty in the constitutional form of Indo-Pak condominium with regard to J&K’s defence and foreign affairs.

It further suggested that the regional aspirations and interests of the J&K people especially Kashmiris be met with by constitutionally accepting J&K as an independent state, enjoying sovereign powers, in all matters except defence and foreign affairs.

The Front said the ethnic aspirations and interests of J&K’s different ethno-regional communities be accommodated by giving maximum possible constitutional autonomy to each of them. the State level matters may include the head of the state, high court, election commission, human development commission, environmental commission and planning commission etc.

Armyman knocked to death by a bus at Nagrota

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, May 27: An Armyman was knocked to death by a speeding and negligently driven bus near Nagrota on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

According to reports, Naib Subedar of Army Naresh Chandra was on way back to his residence after finishing his duty when his scooter bearing registration number CHR-8787 was hit from behind by speeding bus No JK06-1677 near Nagrota on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

The speed of the bus can be guaged from the fact that the scooter has been reduced into a mass of mangled iron and the speeding bus dragged the scooterist for a long distance without caring to stop.

The deceased was shifted to Government Medical College Hospital and body was later handed over to his family members.

A case has been registered at Nargota Police Station in this regard and the erring driver arrested. The vehicle was also seized by the police.

Meanwhile, Mrs Kiran Trivedi, Secretary, Army Wife Welfare Association said that the cases of hit and run accidents on Nagrota NH-1A stretch continued to increase. She said that the residents of the Nagrota Garrison have failed to understand as to why the killer speeding traffic is not being diverted on to the Nagrota bypass which has been constructed at the cost of Rs 12.5 crores.

She further said that while the number of accidents continue to increase, the traffic is still not being diverted perhaps due to petty political reasons of a callous, insenstive state administration and local vested interests.

The Secretary of the Association wondered that repeated requests to divert the traffic on to the bypass have fallen on deaf ears of the insenstive administration. She also raised doubt about the fitness of the bypass road by the Transport Union which are incorrect.

She stressed on the need to decongest the traffic on the road by using bypass so that no more widows are created by an insensitive and callous administration. She warned that if the selfish transporters and administration does not act then residents of Nagrota Garrison will be forced to take the cause to the High Court for justice through Public Interest Litigation (PIL).
