SAMAH (AKHNOOR), May 14: Though security forces have succeeded in eliminating two foreign mercenaries after a fierce day-long encounter, here yesterday, the third one who managed to escape breaking the cordon laid by local police, is yet to be traced. Forces have launched a major combing operation in the area to nab the absconding ultra, who has reportedly sustained a bullet injury during the run away.............more

ST realises whopping Rs 387 cr revenue

Finance Minister Mr Abdul Rahim RatherJAMMU, May 14: The Sales Tax Department surpassing all the previous records has realized a record revenue of Rs 387.48 crores in 2000-01 registering an increase of 41.59 percent over the collections of 1999-2000. This was revealed at the review meeting of the Sales Tax Department held here today under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Mr Abdul Rahim Rather. The meeting which continued for the full day long to take stock of the performance of Jammu division of the Department was attended to by Finance Commissioner, Planning and Development.........more
