Beware! a needle prick in public place can
make you HIV positive

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, May 6: Are you fond of seeing movies in theatres and are regular movie theatre goers. Be cautious because your negligence can land you in the ‘world of Human-Immuno deficiency Virus (HIV)’.

We all have to be careful at public places, rest God helps because these days HIV virus is not only spreading through having sexual relations with the infected person and using of infected persons syringe or blood transfusion but it can infect the person by sitting in public places in general and movie theatre in particular through pricking of needles.

It has been observed that none dare to check the seat while sitting in public places in this State. Nodoubt, not even a single case of this kind has been detected in Jammu and Kashmir but there is every possibility of such happenings. Don’t take it lightly as similar type of cases can happen in the State too.

Recently, a shocking news spread in morning with a request to be cautious. This happened in Paris a few weeks ago in a movie theatre. A person sat on something pricking that was on one of the seats. When she got up to see what it was, she found a needle sticking out of the seat with a note attached saying "You have just been infected by HIV".

The Disease Control Centre, in Paris, has reported many similar events in many other cities recently. All tested needles were found HIV infected. The Centre also reported that needles have been found in the cash dispensers at Public Banking Machines (ATMs).

The Centre, later, asked everyone to use extreme caution when faced with this kind of situation. All Public chairs/seats should be inspected with vigilance and caution before use. A careful visual inspection should be enough.

In addition, they ask that each of you pass this message along to all members of your family and your friends of the potential danger.

Recently, one doctor has narrated somewhat a similar instance happened at Priya Cinema in Delhi to one of his patients.

A young girl engaged and about to be married in a couple of months was pricked while the movie was going on. The tag with the needle had the message— "Welcome to the world of HIV plus family".

Though the doctors told her family that it takes about six months before the virus grows strong enough to start damaging the system and an healthy victim could survive about 5-6 years. The girl died in four months, perhaps more because of the "shock-thought".

Just think about saving a life of someone even you don’t know forwarding this message. Take a few seconds of your time to pass it along.

‘Fighting darkness with light’
Kilo Force has its own mission Kashmir

Excelsior Correspondent

SHARIFABAD, May 6: It was on this barren hillock, overlooking the famous Hokera Wetland reserve, that a young boy from the nearby Soibug village once used to give a tough fight to Army and rival schools in Kabbadi and cricket. Adolescence saw him do post-graduation in two subjects of social science. Nobody then knew that the same enfant terrible would one day ‘rise’ to become the "Supreme Commander" of Kashmir’s most dreaded guerrilla organisation __ Hizbul Mujahideen. For India and Pakistan, Mohammad Yusuf Shah aka Salah-ud-din is now holding key to Jammu and Kashmir’s future. His one word will mean unending bloodshed and another peace in the world’s biggest flashpoint

Army and civil authorities hold Salah-ud-din’s organisation responsible for burning and blasting everything from culverts to schools as also killing of thousands of natives. They say that Salah-ud-din’s Hizb and sister outfits have killed more security personnel than those killed in 1971 Indo-Pakistan war.

But, there is not an iota of pessimism at Sharifabad__ headquarters of north Kashmir’s elite counter-insurgent military, Kilo Force. The toddlers at Army School Hanjik, at the Kilo Force premises, show no symptoms of Jihad. They are sharp in everything from the national anthem Jana Gana to Kashmir’s folk genre of Rouf and their madames, almost all Kashmiris, have picked up plentiful of Hindi vocabulary and accent. On occasion of the school’s annual day, every bit is promising of peace and tranquility.

"They’ll all rise to become Einsteins and Gandhis... messengers of knowledge and non-violence... not Salah-ud-dins", says an officer of the rank of commanding officer. He admits predominant presence of guns and grenades, inside and outside the premises, but emphasises that over a dozen of computer systems would be installed for the children next fortnight. "Parents are pressing hard that computer be introduced at the nursery level. Our higher ups are fully supportive to our requisitions", says he while drawing a contrast between the infinity of bloodshed outside and quite a serene atmosphere within.

"After all, construction is the right answer to destruction. Let the militants burn schools but let us inseminate seeds of science and knowledge. Illiteracy is behind the entire human trouble and unrest. Our Jihad is education, science, discipline and development. And that is this Kilo Force’s real mission Kashmir", says another officer, rather proudly referring to similar Army schools at Ziran (Tangmarg), Prang (Kangan) and Lolab.

But Deputy General Officer Commanding and Patron of the schools, Brig OPS Chauhan, insists in his key address that there is "absolutely no politics" behind the establishment of schools by Kilo Force. He draws immense pleasure out of the fact that quite a large number of parents __ mostly from the adjacent villages of Sharifabad, Hanjik, Abban Shah and Zainakoot __ have made it a point to attend the colourful function on occasion of the annual day.

During an item of the variety programme, faces turned red in a row of Army officers when a young girl read out her nicely scripted "Satire News". She ridiculed how a full regiment of Army conducted a massive cordon-and-search operation, used machineguns and mortars and ultimately one-odd cock was killed in the gunbattle.

The youthful Deputy Commissioner of Budgam, Rohit Kansal, and the District Superintendent of Police, Syed Ashiq Hussain Bukhari, gave away prizes to over a dozen students who had excelled in their respective classes, in the last annual examinations. A 7th standard pupil, Mohammad Maqbool Dar, bagged five prizes for standing first in his class and excellent achievements in other fields. Only time will decide whether he becomes a Salah-ud-din, a Gandhi or an Einstein __ of course, if he is allowed to live.
