Plea to Power Minister

Sir,

This is in reference to the news item regarding safety of 5000 souls of the Indira Colony adjacent to Janipur Power House published in the Daily Excelsior on April 11, 2001.

The inhabitants of this colony seem to be a frightened a lot especially after this incident which occurred at 8 PM on 10th April 2001. Besides causing heavy damage to all electrical and electronic gadgets in 500 homes of the colony, it caused havoc on three members of a family who suffered serious burn injuries due to falling of 11000 volts power line on 220 volts line, feeding supply to the local consumers. The FIR regarding above matter stands registered with Police station Janipur.

Although there was no electricity due to scheduled power cut during that time even then the televisions, Refrigerators, Radios and illuminating devices got damaged.

The crying of children and ladies of families whose homes were short circuited added to woes and it seemed as if everything was over. It is emphasised that this was second incident in a span of 2 years in which a person lost his life and several others had to amputate limbs due to the devil net of high voltage power lines spread over the colony.

Then next day came higher dignitaries of electric deptt. for on the spot assessment and future course of action. Despite these visits, safety norms of the supply lines stand fully violated and people left to face the same consequences.

We appeal to the power Minister Mr. S S Salathia to please intervene in the matter as it involves the safety of 5000 people living in this neglected colony.

A fervent appeal is once again made to the Minister to issue instructions/orders to make functional the alternate power station at Roop Nagar on SOS basis and shift these 11 KVA lines to new power station accordingly.

Yours etc...

Consult history books

Sir,

Kindly refer the letter published in reply to my observation on the article published on Ist April authored by Mr. D C Sharma. In it he refers to a book by an English author. It is strange that he is writing articles based on a single book. Moreover it becomes a copy not the article where originality is no more,. Mr. Sharma must know that the observation was based on historical facts and not hypothesis. He quoted History of Punjab Hill states by Hutchison and Vogel. I would request him to read page 535-36 82 edition of the same book wherein they clearly indicate that Parasram Dev and Sangram Dev were contemporaries. Tarikh Rajgan Jammu & Kashmir by Kahan Singh Billoweria is the only authentic book as far as local history is concerned. I would request him to read page 67 of vol. I, 1986 Vikrami edition. Other books include History and culture of Himalayan States by S S Charak vol. 4, part-I PP 190 to 195, Tarikh-e-Jammu, Rajdarshani, Tarikh-i-Shahi-Khandan-I-Dogra, and the list goes on. I am still of the opinion that he should not offer cooked facts and refrain from establishing wrong hypothesis. Saying that there might be two Sangram Devs does not mean any thing. There may be many, then what? It does not mean he should communicate wrong information.

A shameful Act

Sir,

The year 2001 is being celebrated as the year of Women Empowerment. But it seems that men are overpowering women more than before. As it becomes clear from the latest case where it is alleged that a doctor tried to outrage the modesty of a women in the GMC Jammu.

The act is more shamfeful because it was committed by a doctor and whom people consider as next to God. If in today's world it becomes dangerous to go to see a God where would the suffering people go? There is no door left specially for the women community.

These people whether a doctor or any other common man should be given exemplary punishment so that no body in future could dare to act in this shameful manner.
