NEW DELHI, May 5: The Prime Minister, Mr Atal
Behari Vajpayee, has managed-indeed, in sheer secrecy-to
woo the Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid, Syed
Ahmed Bukhari, although the process in this regard took
more than six weeks. Syed Ahmed Bukhari, after his
‘coronation’ as the Shahi Imam, had played a
key role while convincing several Kashmiri opposition
leaders, particularly the ones belonging to the All-Party
Hurriyat Conference (APHC), that ‘peace’ talks
with the Government of India will eventually lead to
security and stability and safety of the average
