Defence scam
Sir,
We have been
bowing our head with shape whenever a scandal or
a scam is surfaced in socio-political milieu of
great India. Once again at the threshold of 21st
century we have to bow our head with shame after
mind-blowing disclosure of a bid defence purchase
scandal by Tehelka. Com. Now we must acclimatise
ourselves to stand in international fora with
bowed head. A defence scam in which politicians
belonging to parties having long credibility and
clean image, bureaucrats, top army brass are neck
deep involved, has shaken the common masses.
People and inflicting faith and trust in the
leadership of NDA conglomerate and were heaving a
sigh of relief that at least after decades of so
called misrule of the Congress, a group has
emerged at the National level to give good
governance having all parameters of transparency,
accountability, credibility and above all
people's interest and welfare. But the current
disclosure have belied our hopes and aspirations.
National interest and security is at stake and we
are selling everything for the sake of a missing
wealth that too dumped in foreign banks. Imagine
our image in such European countries wherein
money plundered in India is stocked in their
lockers. This is the fruit of an era of
commissions and kickbacks. This posterity shall
never forgive us for their acts of commissions
and omissions. With impunity, we are committing
misdeeds at the cost of nation. It is not a
national disgrace?
The latest defence
scam involving political big-wigs forces us to
believe that mutation has taken place in our
genetic constitution and we can't live and
survive without resorting to corrupt practices in
all spheres of public life. A pertinent questions
is haunting the common may regarding the fate of
scame/scandals surfaced during eighties and
nineties. Trainted leaders and persons are freely
roaming, enjoying and relishing the bounties of
ill-gotton wealth but people are aghast.
Defence purchase
scandal has revealed the extent of greed and lust
for money irrespective of nation's security and
people's faith. Let us introspect and ponder over
that where have we gone wrong during the last
fifty years? Is our democratic set-up responsible
for breading corruption in public life? The only
option before us to redeem our image is to
install a National Govt. at least for 3-4 years
by an ordinance of President of India, who might
be a sad person today. We, the people of India
must act to defend the honour of nation and save
our-selves from the evil designs of a handful of
clumsy leaders and pernicious power brokers.
Yours etc...

Plight of PSE- I
Sir,
The cost of living
allowance (COLA) is due to the Public Sector
Employees for the last three years. The
Government is sitting on the issue, on the plea
that Public Sector is in red, therefore they do
not own any responsibility for release of COLA.
It is very unfortunate that on the one hand the
Ministers and top bureaucrats are tapping the
resources/revenue of the Public Sector by one way
or the other and on the other hand they are
blaming the poor employees for the losses. The
losses, if any, in the Public Sector is due to
wrong and corrupt policies of the Government as
well as management. All the Minister under the
grab of Chairmanship of the concerned Unit draw
their TA, DA, Telephone charges, Vehicles POL
etc. from these Corporations. There is large
scale corruption every where, but no efforts are
being made to curb this menace. For the last
three years the PSE are on strike, but as ill
luck would have it all political parties have
failed to raise the issue in the floor of the
house being the public representatives. During
election many promises are made by these so
called public representative to redress the
grievances of the general public, but after
sitting on the cozy chairs, they forget every
thing and start draining the public exchequre.
This reminds us of the British Supremacy in
India. The PSE are at the verge of starvation, as
against 41 percent DA 15% Cola is being paid to
these workers. From the above, it is quite clear
that great injustice is being done with the PSE
by the present Govt. The Government is requested
to immediately acceded to the demand of the PSE
and lead the state in the right direction, as the
people of this State are already fed up with the
militancy, corruption and mismanagement in the
Government. No care is being taken of the genuine
demand of the workers who are serving the State
in the remote and far-flung areas. Recently all
the PSE were deployed for Panchyat election duty
in the far-off areas without security and they
performed it at the risk of their life.

Plight of PSE- II
Sir,
Kudos to the Daily
Excelsior for breaking its silence regarding the
release of COLA (DA) favouring PSO employees in
its editorial dated 16th of March 2001.
It is really
unfortunate that the government of the day has
repeatedly ignored the pleas of the PSU workers
for the release of COLA (DA) impounded
arbitrarily by the Government for the last three
years. The Government of the day should not check
the patience of PSU workers any more. It is
apprehended that any further delay on the part of
Government may unfortunately result into some
breach of peace in the State of J&K that is
already having touch time on various fronts.
Therefore, in the
fitness of things and keeping in view the dignity
of labour, it would be worthwhile for the
Government to release the COLA (DA) favouring the
PSU workers without any further delay so that
they are about to meet their both ends meal
during these hard days because the dearness on
various commodities is equally affecting the
pockets of every one.
Yours etc...
