JAMMU, Mar 12: Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather today presented a Rs 618 crore deficit budget for next financial year in the State Legislature but mostly left the deficit uncovered. The budget, which had no major schemes for the next financial year, proposed several concessions for local liquor manufacturers by imposing an import fee of Rs 10 per LPL on the liquor brought from outside the State..............more

NEW DELHI, Mar 12: In a major embarrassment, the NDA Government was today censured in the Rajya Sabha on the controversial BALCO disinvestment with the passage of opposition-sponsored amendment to the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address to Parliament. The amendment moved by senior Congress member Pranab Mukherjee that the President’s address did not have a mention of the Government decision to sell 51 per cent of its equity in the aluminium company to private Sterlite Industries, was adopted by 103 votes to 64 votes......more
