One killed, 18 civilians injured in grenade blast

SRINAGAR, Mar 10: While continuing their ceasefire-time offensive against the State Police, militants have gunned down a relative of the Forest Minister Pirzada Ghulam Ahmed Shah and another civilian in Kashmir valley since last evening. Even as security forces have eliminated two Kashmiri militants in Anantnag district, one civilian has got killed and eighteen more injured in a grenade blast at Batmaloo in the capital city here today. Informed sources told EXCELSIOR that on Friday afternoon a couple of militants shot dead a close relative of the senior National Conference leader and Forest Minister Pirzada Ghulam Ahmed Shah at Devsar village in Kulgam. Sources said that 53-year-old Ghulam Nabi Shah S/o Gul Mohammad Shah, who was an employee of the Adult Education, was targetted by his killers in the premises of the local mosque after he performed his prayers. The militants fired two pistol shots in Shah’s head and neck and he died on spot. Driving a scooter without number plate, the duo escaped in broad daylight.............more

JAMMU, Mar 10: Displaying a ‘perfect example’ of Unified Command, a group of armymen led by a Captain attacked Bari Barahamana police station officials this afternoon and handed over a severe thrashing to them including Station House Officer (SHO) Mohd Rafiq and a number of civilians in the town. The SHO had to be hospitalised while several shopkeepers sustained fractures in army attack.....more
