Pandits Participation in talks-I

Sir,

Better late than never. It is good to note that Pandits are demanding participation in negotiations on Kashmir with K C Pant et al. But won't it be good for Pandits to discuss the matter first with themselves and decide to the last possible decimal what exactly they would like to speak as part of the dialogue.

To quote an example; your news item in Daily Excelsior dated June 4.2001 titled "Pandits demands participation in negotiations on Kashmir," reads as this: The Joint Council has also reiterated its stand that the State of Jammu and Kashmir has to remain a single unit as a national necessity and political compulsion in the larger interests of India's unity, solidarity and integrity which demands sacrifice. This is in total contrast to another press release issued by Punan Kashmir which "reiterates" the enviable demand for a "separate homeland." It is turning out to be a good number of "reiterations" for a minuscule community of 3 lakh odd members (seemingly not even that), some of whom have died and some dying.

When things are hotting up on the Kashmir scene, it is interesting to note that a number of -socalled Pandit leaders (some having run out of funded financial steam and a few looking for a real sensible solution to the Kashmir issue) are resurging back to in (action). Owing to their typical double-speak we have reasons to believe that too many Pandit cooks might spoil the broth. Please.

Pandits Participation in talks-II

Sir,

It is of utmost importance that various factions and groups of Kashmiri Pandits should unite and function in Unison to take the problems of the community to its logical end.

In this connection, it is heartening to note that two major groups viz-Punan Kashmir (PK) and Punan Kashmir Movement (PKM) have decided and resolved to hammer out their differences.

The need of the hour is that leadership of the community should unitedly represent its cause before the concerned agencies.

It will also be in the interest of the community if an Apex body of leaders of various factions of K P Community is framed. This Body should have the power of take major policy decisions. The entire community will hopefully back such decisions of the Apex Body.

As the leadership knows, the community has a number of problems-major being restoration of property taken illegally by miscreants and the problems being faced by the displaced Government employees. Such matters can be handled and brought to the notice of appropriate authorities by the Apex Body. It is hoped that a good sense will prevail upon the community in this behalf.

Plea to SSRB

Sir,

I want to draw the kind attention of the concerned authorities about the clash between interview date for the post of teacher in District Rajouri and the date sheet of graduate level examination. The interview for A.L.C Category is scheduled to take place on 23.6.2001 when there is Annual Exam of English B of B.Sc. Part III. However, it is not possible for the applicants to miss the exam for interview.

Therefore, it is requested to the concerned authority to make some amendments in interview dates for such applications so that they may not miss the interview chance.

Uninterrupted electricity, water supply

Sir,

We often read in newspapers that such and such area is without water and electricity or there is irregular supply of the same. The water and electricity are basic needs of the people and without it, it is not only difficult but quite impossible to live a normal life. There were days when both water and electricity were supplied uninterruptedly to the people but now there are frequent cuts in power supply and water supply instead of two times is made one time or even on alternate days that too of poor quality and quantity. If a popular Government cannot provide basic needs to its people, what else can be expected from it. The simple answer of this question is that both the PDD and PHE officials are not honest to their duties and corruption is the root cause of this menace. If a survey is conducted honestly, it will be found that not less than forty percent connections are illegal and against norms of these departments. Unless proper steps to change the system are taken the water and power supply situation will not improve and common man will continue to suffer.

Some accountability system should be evolved in these departments at the earliest otherwise the present system will lead to a great loss and within a few years, we shall have no water and electricity.
