PDD and power scenario

Sir,

Our power Minister who also happens to be from this region had assured respite from regular power cuts just after assuming office. But the things seem to be going out of control especially when everyone was expecting some sort of relief, in this scorching heart. Our area i.e Shiv Vihar is a classic example of sheer callousness on the part of PDD authorities. The transformer rated at 100 KVA had a recommended load of 100-110 KW but the load connected to it is almost twice i.e 200 KW and that is why the transformer has gone out of order thrice in a couple of months. The authorities reply in this regard is astonishing which I would like to share with you which is that you should bring a delegation and press for the demand of a larger transformer. I fail to understand why the concerned authorities don't pay any heed to grievances that are raised peacefully and in the most civilised manner. It only goes on to substantiate the fact why the most of demands are met only after people take to streets. I mean to say what is the fun of asking for a delegation when the same situation has been brought to the notice of the department not once but thrice. The solution lies in replacing the transformer with a larger one or restoring the recommended load and disconnecting the extra load on it. Every body is aware of the Power shortage and cooperation is really coming up from the common person and the authorities must also reciprocate by replacing the demanged transformer is quick time. Unfortunately, nothing seems to be going well and the sufferers are the poor people. We have a right to ask the PDD authorities that if we are paying our dues on regular basis then why have we been kept sweating in this sweltering heat. The situation has assumed dangerous proportions and something must be done to restore the faith of the people in the said department.

Burderned children

Sir,

This letter has reference to the article "Catch Them Young" published in your esteemed paper dated 16.5.2001.

I really appreciate Rajesh's views for the upliftment of standard of sports in our state. He has rightly said that the age range of 10 to 13 years is the right time for joining sports club. But, I want to know that how is it possible for a small kid of this age group to participate in sports, when he is going to school and to private tuition. These kids are being burdened by their teachers with home work. And hence when they return to home they spend most of their time in just copying those assignments. And, then it clearly becomes impossible for them to go to some sports club. So, instead of our sports councils and coaches, our education system managers should take some fruitful steps in order to reduce the weight of their bags so that these kids are able to play at least outside their home.

At present the condition of these kids is miserable. So, it has become essential today to reduce their extra burden for their mental and physical growth.

Favoritism in Skating Association

Sir,

This refers to news item published in the Daily Excelsior dated 29th May in which my name has appeared in the list of skaters who were honoured by the union MOS Civil Aviation Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta. I would like to clarify that I was never present in that function & to best of my knowledge most of the players whose names are mentioned were not present in the function. Actually, this Amateur Roller Skating Association which arranged the said function has been creation of certain elements who are doing great harm to the game in order to fulfill their own vested interests. An example of their misdoing is selection of a non player in the national events held in during the month of Dec. 2000. The selection list was deliberately kept secret in order to give the benefit of sports quota in competent authority examinations to the wards of their own people. This association is not at all recognised by Roller Skating Federation of India the nodal agency responsible for all the affairs of the Roller Skating at the national level. Most of the players who have participated in the international as well as national events of the game had in the past years deliberately boycotted the function of the self styled association which is doing great harm to genuine skaters and promoting nepotism and favoritism among the players. In order to show their existence they got the said function organized and issued fake and false press statements regarding participation of players in that function.

Checking Dog menace

Sir,

Kindly refer to the News item that appeared in the Daily Excelsior on 2.6.2001 regarding the menace of stray dogs of Rani Mandir locality below Gumat. In this connection, it is clarified that the complainant S Dharam Singh approached in the office of undersigned on 2.6.2001 at 12.30 PM and started quarreling with my peon at the entrance of my office room and man-handled my peon thereby creating a scene. Soon after I intervened and tried to pacify S Dharam Singh and requested him to get his complaint registered with the undersigned so that the dog menace in his locality is taken care of immediately by deputing the Dog-Squad but unfortunately, he did not listen to my request and contrary to it started banging my table, and used unparliamentary and filthy language and also threatened me and my staff with dire consequences particularly in area of Rani Mandir. Since there was law and order problem, the undersigned was constrained to call for police assistance and S. Dharam Singh was taken away by police. An FIR was also handed over to the police cops on the spot.

By virtue to above said incident, the whole Ministerial and executive staff particularly the Safaikaramchari and the Supervisory staff looking after the Rani Mandir area are under great pressure and have approached the undersigned that adequate police protection may be provided if the said area is to be cleaned as they have been receiving numerous threats. Regarding the dog menace in the area, the undersigned has already started the special drive for checking dog menace in various localities of Jammu city but unfortunately the residents of the area are not cooperating towards in labelling of their pet dogs. However, the dead dog has already been removed by the Dog-squad.

In light of above facts, it is pertinent to mention that the news items that appeared under the caption Rani Mandir lodge complaint against JMHO is the story projected by S Dharam Singh and Party and is not based on reality.
