Implementations of NHRC recommendations demanded
KP youth pledge to intensify struggle for "Homeland"

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, July 13: Taking a solemn pledge to intensify the struggle for the carving out the separate "Homeland" in Kashmir Valley for over seven lakh displaced Hindus, the Kashmiri Pandit youth convention today warned that no solution to the problem is possible by ignoring the community.

The convention was organised by Joint Working Council (JWC) of Panun Kashmir (PK) and Panun Kashmir Movement (PKM) here today. Two resolutions were held on the occasion and in the second resolution it was resolved that the community youth will take upon themselves the sacred social duty of rededicating their lives to take the political struggle of Kashmiri Pandits for achieving the goal of "Homeland" as envisaged by the Margdarshan resolution of 1991 to its logical conclusion.

The resolution also urged the Government of India to take up with Government of Pakistan the matter of performance of annual pilgrimage to Mata Sharda Shrine, the ancient seat of high learning now under illegal occupation of Pakistan.

It also made an appeal to all Jagatguru Shankaracharyas and other spiritual leaders to take up this matter with the Government of India.

It also urged the Government of India to demand from the Government of Pakistan reparation in particular for their connivance in acts of genocide, exodus , ethnic cleansing , death and destruction against the Kashmiri Pandits which under the international law constitutes crime against humanity in general and indigenous aborigines of Valley in particular.

Through another resolution it demanded implementation of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) recommendations concerning high level committee to go into practical problems being faced by Pandits while in exile so that their miseries are redressed and difficulties removed.

It outrightly rejected the return package formulated by the State Government and urged the Pandit community be vigilant about its adverse and evil effects.

It also warned the vested interests who are bent upon damaging and diluting the political thrust of the Pandit Community’s agenda and consequent action.

The speakers while welcoming the PK and PKM for coming on a joint platform stressed on unity of both the groups. Some of the youth demanded that the Sharda script be given its due place in the state and it should be taught in the schools.

Dr K N Pandits a well known intellectual and staunch protagonist of Panun Kashmir while justifying the demand for creation of separate "Homeland" for KPs in the Valley said it is not the territory only which we claim but revival of our ancient culture, society and religion. He said in "Homeland" we can feel free and make more contribution for nation’s solidarity.

He said Government and people belonging to majority community in the Valley are afraid of our demand. This is the reason that Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah has once said that "Homeland" will be over his body.

He said during the recent meet with the Centre’s interlocutor on Kashmir, Mr K C Pant we gave him the option of restructuring the State.

He alleged that both Congress and NC were in power in 1990 but they failed to protect the community.

He while expressing the hope that joining hands by PK and PKM will yield tangible results said that the some people who have maintained the distance will also join hands with us some day for the greater interests of the community.

Dr Agnishekhar, convenor PK who expressed his grave concern over the growth of Islamic fundamentalism said we have lost our cultural roots after exodus.

He said the symbols of culture of Pandits are being destroyed or are usurped . He said the Sharda Mata shrine, the ancient important centre of religion, learning and culture is under the illegal occupation of Pakistan and for the last 50 years the Pandits have been deprived of performing the cherished sacred yatra to this highly revered shrine.

He said the KP community has the least information about the prevailing condition of this shrine under the illegal control of Islamic state of Pakistan at present.

Mr Ashvani Kumar Chrangoo , president PKM said the KP youth are determined and do not take pleasantly the circumstances and conditions under which the elders of the community spent their lives helplessly under the dictates of Muslim majoritarianism and precedence in all walks of life.

He said the youth are not prepared to surrender their human rights and fundamental rights as are accepted by the civilized society all over the world. He said they want to live with out fear to their lives, faith and property and the creation of "Homeland" in the Valley is the only condition which can guarantee the Kashmiri Pandit youth a secure and honorable life.

Mr Shiv Dass general secretary Kashmiri Sahik Sabha, Chandigarh, presided the political session and Mr Ramesh Manvati from New Delhi also addressed the convention.

Later a torch light procession was taken out by the youth from Shaheedi Chowk to Dennis Gate in support of their demand that KPs be made a Party to any dialogue on Kashmir.
