Daily Excelsior in USA Sir, I'm delighted to see my hometown paper on internet. I was so excited. I called every body in the family Shabnam, Raja, Jony & Raju. Atleast every one of us can read my homestate's news directly from Jammu. I believe that we (India) got the potential in everyfield but its just the matter of time. In the U.S. there is no hospital without an Indian doctor, no University without an Indian Professor, no high tech. company without an Indian high tech. worker and no software company without an Indian computer programmer. Its hightime for the world to realise the potential in India. On this special day I would like to congratulate you for bringing "The Daily Excelsior" on my computer desk. Yours etc.. |
Care for cattle Sir, I disagree with my colleague Dr. Jitender Singh in his article "Meneka and cows". Meneka Gandhi has done a lot of good work in the environmental health in India. She has spread the concept of becoming vegetarian to the common Indian. Human was born vegetarian but because he started eating meat, he got all new diseases like heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke,, diabetes etc. Dr. Singh should have known about it as he is the diabetologist. Our Hindu religion teaches the same, and the west has very well recognized it. And they are turning from non-veg to vegetarian. The animals are to be loved, not to make them work. Only if ponies could talk, would they tell that their natural habitat is to carry load. I would ask Dr. Singh to visit us here in the US and I will personally show him how the environment is maintained and how people love animals. I am sure he will go back as a changed person. Yours etc.... |
Poor China Sir, I read with interest the letter by one Hasmukh Patel, titled, "Selling Chinese Goods". I visit China several times a year and in no sense can we compare a backward country China with an advanced India. The Chinese have yet to make PCs Mr. Vajpayee and Mr. Fernandes the Chinese are scared of a great power that is Bharat. Yours etc... |
Dogri neglected Sir, I read carefully the article"Dogri: A bleeding mother tongue" in your paper of 11th Jan. 2001 in the culture column. What Mr. O P Sharma has written is quite alright. But there are few other contributory factors also which would go in the direction of achieving the goal. Essentially spoken Dogri is at its minimal. Wherever I go I find the Jammuites talking mostly in Hindustani/Punjabi. The need of the hour is that the Jammuites encourage conversing in their families in Dogri. Likewise, the student community be also encouraged to converse in their mother tongue in their respective institutions. With them that would have the additional advantage of clarity in the expression of their thoughts. The media and the Cultural Academy also do not seem to have made any serious contribution in highlighting the works of the Dogri scholars. Take the case of Pt. Bandu Sharma who took to heavens few months back. Such a brilliant scholar has expired unsung. The Jammu Radio holds occasionally half an hour 'Mehfil' programme with scholars and different dignitaries. No such 'Mehfil' was held with him. The Cultural Academy also did not do anything in his life time so as to highlight his award winning works. Thanks to the concerned at least, the Sahitya Academy was conferred on him posthumously. Once attention is paid on these lines, the spoken Dogri would go into the ethos of the Jammuites. The result would be that there would be an en-masse roar reaching New Delhi more speedily than the slogans of few NGOs. Yours etc...
Islamisation of India Sir, Our Politicians have been trying for 'peace' with Pakistan. I would like to mention a quote by the late Ghaffar Khan wherein he said that even if India gave away 50 Kashmirs the Pakistani ruling class will not be satisfied. The goal of Pakistan is Islamisation and conquest of India. So the only thing that needs to be done is to keep Pakistan at pay. Yours etc...
Petty politics Sir, The majority of people in India have nothing to do with Mandir, Masjid or any other violent type of politics in which hundreds and thousands of innocent people are killed by some politicians to meet their end but instead they (People) want houses, food to eat, clothes, hospitals, schools, roads and other facilities of life. The Prime Minister himself has admitted that while on the one hand there has been surplus foodgrains production, on the other hand a large section of the population was going hungry which is shameful for the nation. Not only this, but hundreds of lives are claimed both by cold and heat waves every year and other natural calamities but our politicians are always busy in petty politics. Now there is Panchayat election in the State, and we read in the news paper for electing sincere and honest Sarpanch and Panches but the question arises from where such people have to be brought, as at present, honest are only those who have no scope of corruption. Therefore, when works will be executed through these Panchayats only the quantum of corruption will increase and standard of work will further decrease as these elected Sarpanchs will also follow foot prints of their senior politicians. The beneficiaries will be nears and dears and rest will get only maltreatment as has happened earlier also. The people in general are already fed up of such politicians and other bureaucrats but have no way out except to pray God to come for help and save them from such elements. The way-out for elimination of corruption is to frame a special law to deal with the corruption and the corrupt elements should not be spared at any cost. This is a great evil in the country, even it is a black spot on the nation which has weakened the country in every field, sphere of life. It has constrained the development of the country. So the law so far framed should have provisions to punish the corrupt people in the manners which sets up an example for others, other wise the corruption will eat the country within few decades to come. Yours etc.... |
