Gujarat Catastrophe-I

Sir,

While the nation began to celebrate its 51st Republic Day on 26th January 2001, an earthquake measuring 6.9 on Richter Scale rocked the State of Gujarat, bringing in its aftermath unprecedented death, destruction and devastation all around. Thousands perished under the rubble, were crippled and wounded with severe injuries and those who survived the catastrophe, by the Will of Almighty have been rendered homeless, and are under mental schock. In fact, words do not suffice to narrate this unprecedented natural calamity. However, one can have a feel of the traumatic experience of the devastation and heart rending scenes by watching the clippings and footages shown on various TV Channels.

Once again, it has proved that science has not yet come of age where it could save the humanity from natural calamities of such a magnitude. Certainly, our scientists need to accelerate their endeavour in this regards so as to minimise the human loss considerably, if not completely.

This incident has stirred the whole nation. It has also moved the conscience of the whole humanity all over the world and thus at this hour of breavement, humanity beackons us all to contribute whatever we can in cash and kind in order to provide much needed succour to the people of Gujarat whose life long earnings and dreams of better living have been shattered in a few seconds following earthquake.

Remember, our contributions however small may be, earn us all the blessings and good wishes of the most needy people of Gujarat. As per our religious scriptures, only good deeds, in the shape of earned blessings and good wishes of the needy would form the true treasure of life.

Gujarat Catastrophe-II

A natural question:-

I. Can we fight against the will of nature?

II. Have we the power to violate His unseen, un-predictable wrath that he slaps on the mankind in one form of the other?

The only right and duty that we hold is to approach Him and put supplications in all humility, sincerety and fairness to weed out the evil.

Gujarat tragedy, gruesome in nature, horrifying to look, vibrating on the lips of every body evokes an un-canny sensation in our minds.

The disaster that it wrought in entire Gujarat candidly pronounces the peculiar unseen power with which the callousness of the nature is presented. It reflects the dormant element of invisible power which can devastate and reverse the entire phenomenon of the globe, would change its geography and profile in a twinkle of an eye. Sunrise, rise of moon, earthquake, floods are all the mysterious manifestations of His creation. Though we have sufficient proofs geographically and scientifically for all natural catastrophes, they too pale into insignificance before his omnipotence and omniscence.

India and Pakistan both are intensely engaged in ruthless killings of innocents, meek and docile unleashing uncertainity and insecurity to Kashmiris. Prudence and political astuteness demands to resign to His will without departing from the moral code of conduct.

The Gujarat episode has caused acute restlessness and commotion in the entire world as it involves human tragedy and merits all possible help to be extended to the bereaved. It is a National tragedy to be faced jointly.

Similarity can safely be drawn with the exodus of KPs who are still in the trauma of earthquake that rocked them in early 90's. It was more than a massive earthquake that shook the community, forced it to lie listlessly in the different and distant corners of the country. They are in sore distress and wretched plight. On one to hear, no one to listen to their woes.

Live and let live is the rule of common justice; justice demand their honourable settlement and their rehabilitation.

Before we grow wise after the events, the Govt is advised to undertake preliminary survey of old, unsafe buildings to avert an unpredictable eventuality. Buildings in old Sectt. (Jammu) appear to have lived their life, need to be surveyed for appropriate action.

Rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits (Migrants) be taken up on war-footings on the same soil where from they sprang and unto which their ancestors have gone.

Check population

Sir,

Ever since my retirement more than twenty years ago I find through the courtesy of the newspapers and also by personal visits to various offices, the extent to which the office of the J&K State Government stand staffed with the over population who just sit and gossip because the work load distributed among members of the offices is so meagre and less that lasts just for a couple of hours though the office hours extend to six hours a day. Filling the Government offices with youth population with either very less work or no work at all, shall in no way solve the problem of unemployment unless the Government of Indian (for whole of India) makes small family norm a legal bindings on the reproductive couples; keeping this particular aspect of "freedom of people" dumped in a strong iron box for at least two decades. Then and then only population of the country shall come to a normal level.

Could the present NDA Government muster courage to take the right step at the right time to relieve whole of India of the population burden so that every homestead live a comfortable and easy life hereafter.
