UDHAMPUR, Feb 11: Having failed to recover a teen-aged kidnapped girl even after four days of her Bollywood style abduction by some influential persons of the town, police today opened firing and resorted to heavy lathicharge and teargassing on women, who were protesting peacefully against police failure to locate the girl and arrest the accused........more

Governor, CM visit carnage site; decry militants’ brutalities

JAMMU, Feb 11: Governor Girish Chander Saxena and Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah who visited yesterday’s carnage site at village Kot Chadwal in Budhal tehsil where 15 nomads were charred to death by the militants, today said that India couldn’t be brow beaten through repeated commission of heinous crimes against its people Talking to the people at Kot Chadwal village in Budhal tehsil, that witnessed the worst carnage of three Bakerwal families by militants on Friday night, the Governor said that India is continent in itself with one billion population that cannot be shaken or destabilised with the enemy’s dastard and gruesome acts like they committed at this sleepy village..............more

Militants blast main transmission line

JAMMU, Feb 11: Militants blasted 132 KV Udhampur-Pampore transmission line with a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Bankoot, about one and a half km from Banihal while army and police gunned down a militant in Thathri area in two separate incidents across Doda district. Official sources said unidentified militants first damaged two out of four main pillars of the transmission line and then tied a 10 kg IED, filled with RDX, with the pillars. The explosion occurred in the early hours of this morning causing extensive damage to the line.........more
