Terrorism and suicide

Sir,

Suicide is an act by which a person kills himself deliberately with a proper planning. The act of suicide is prevalent in every society from ancient times. But the modern development and technology has created some more serious problems for human beings. Due to stress and strain people opt for suicides of various kinds.

As a matter of fact, suicide is wrong because human life being a gift from God, belongs of Him and only God has the right to decide how long a man shall live and die. Suicide is opposed to natural human instincts, healthy minded people take pleasure in life and enjoy facing its difficulties.

It is dereliction of duty, since ''we are all members of another'' and should make ourselves useful in the community to which we belong. Misfortune, like an apparently incurable disease is not a sufficient excuse for deserting one's post.

Struggling with adversity at once moulds one's own character and sets a good example to others. Suicide is condemnable by a public opinion and has a disastrous effect on a number of adolescents who magnify pretty disappointments into incurable tragedies and take their lives instead of facing difficulties.

Modern terrorism has added a new dimension to suicides. Dreaded terrorist groups operating in different parts of the world are using suicides as weapons. Tamil militants operating in Sri Lanka and Muslim terrorists operating in J&K and Palestine have formed suicidal squads to hit the intended targets to spread terror and achieve the goal and objective. Young religious minded persons on the name of Jehad are asked to commit suicide. But the scholars of Islamic teaching are totally against this act. They call it as un Islamic. Except some Christian sees all the religions of the world are opposed to any form of suicide.

The present law against suicides seems to be ineffective and inadequate and there is need to implement the law in letter and spirit. The law should continue to punish attempts at suicides, it deters the culprit from further attempts and also prevents others from following his example.

Back to Square one

Sir,

It is in reference to a news item "Soft stand of Govt. on terrorism led to Dec. 13 attacks : PK" published in this esteemed paper on December 19, 2001. In response to Mr. Kuldip Raina's statement that organisation has already undertaken a mass campaign to seek the reaffirmation of community members towards the resolution of Margdharshan 1991, I would like to ask all the main pillars of Panun Kashmir structure that after elapsing of a decade long probation of homeland philosophy do we stand there where we had started ? To my mind we are still there where we had started. No acceleration, no momentum and no progress. If homeland movement would have attained momentum there would have been no need of seeking reaffirmation and passing the same resolution repeatedly. In fact, homeland movement has been restricted to Abhinav theatre where resolution after resolution is passed without any back up policy and follow up. Resolution after resolution and seeking reaffirmation will serve no purpose. It is just a try to convince who is already convinced. To any movement there are three phases. First, preliminary phase, second, the sustaining phase and the third cultivating or achieving phase. We had already entered into the sustaining phase, which is most important but it is very unfortunate that due to lack of sincerity of our big guns we have gone a foot backward and reentered into preliminary phase.

It is better to give a thought and involve public sincerely in achieving the goal beyond the fixed periphery of organising programmes in Abhinav Theatre.

Maverick Musharraf

Sir,

The double crosser that he is, General Musharraf the architect of Kargil Mayhem, proclaiming talking peace anywhere and anytime, partook Indian hospitality and courtesy at Agra, harped on Kashmir, talking rough and tough on our soil and packed his bags even before the Indian leaders could match his jugglery. He know he could not achieve any thing but he refurbished his battered image at home.

He suggested to Putin once that the way out of the Chechan mess is to recognise the Taliban regime. Does Musharraf chew the cud now?

He talked of putting Pakistan back to rails as it came close to being a failed State as the sole reason for showing democracy the door. He is "committed" to restore the same democracy to Pakistan under the Supreme Court ruling. He tests political waters by looking for elections with party less candidates. We are not aware of any exemplary elections even under his command in POK but talk he must at all for about the trampled rights of the residents of the "other'' Kashmir.

He met Dr. Agnishekhar of Panun Kashmir and promised looking after the case of the human rights abuses of a section of Kashmiris. We have not heard anything about it so far. It is not just his doggedness on Kashmir, it is the foolhardy perserverance of his theory of freedom fighters in the "Other" Kashmir. Of course, he is for liberty in Pakistan as a whole.

The twenty thousand odd madrasas to churn out thousands of "Jehadis"-students-constitute his blind spot he has many such and he set out with American chums to crush terrorism. Under duress he allows the super power to use Pak soil and is snubbed when he wants the operations to be brief.

He is snubbed again when he wants cease-fire during Ramzan. He even removes ISI chief. The artful President quotes the life times of Prophet Mohammad to explain away the Presidents need for change in strategy about Taliban regime.

His turn-abouts, deceits, dawdling, duplicity and perpetual dodging stand out. Dozens are his faces, colours and brazen are his self righteous pronouncements.

There is irrefutable evidence on Pakistan backed attacks on the State Assembly and not the Indian Parliament. He is yet the original hard-nosed detective, Sherlock Holmes, transhing Delhi Police, Indian leadership and even the international opinion. "It just is not Pakistan. Elementary, Dr. Watson, elementary".

He means he is used to being the lawyer and the judge. He is ready to extend his services, free of cost to investigate the whole affair.
