Writing History texts

Sir,

The controversy over the changes in the history texts is gaining momentum these days. This controversy has become such a big fight that even the historians and text book writers have refused to write the texts and have been refused to make the syllabus. Not only this, even publishers are not publishing new books because if they published the texts according to the old syllabus they shall have to suffer losses and the new syllabus is yet not known.

It seems that the students in the next session of 2002-03 will not have any text books of history to read. Thus for whom these changes are being made if ultimately students will have to suffer and if they are not going to have anything to read. If the controversy is not sorted out at the earliest, the real sufferers will be students.

Thus, the Government and the opposition should take into the account the plight of students before taking any such bold step.

It's India's battle

Sir,

The Dec. 13 is the saddest day for the Indian democracy since that day the suicide bombers attacked the Parliament. This unprecedented act of terrorism is in continuation to the earlier militant attacks on Red Fort last December, Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Centre and Oct. Ist attack on the J&K legislature.

The message of the terrorists is loud and clear they can strike at any of the chosen targets defying the security bandobast. For them India is thus a soft target. This attack on the Parliament has shown the vulnerability of our security and intelligence apparatus. And thus the faith of the common man regarding the safety of his life and property has been shattered.

When on Oct. Ist the State legislature of the J&K was attacked, it should have served as a timely reminder for our Government at the Centre about the things to happen in the coming days, but our Prime Minister shot off a letter to the US President conveying that the patience of the people of India is wearing thin, instead of taking some tough measures to deal with this menace of terrorism. It must be remembered by our political leadership that as a sovereign nation Indian has to fight its battle itself. The political leadership of the country has time and again given the impression of talking tought but meek action, which has emboldened the terrorists which are striking now and then to bleed India profoundly and terrorise the people.

The security personnel deployed at the Parliament premises has redeemed some honour of the country as they have killed the suicide bombers and put an end to the nefarious designs and for this brave and exemplary courage and presence of mind, they deserve all our praise. We also slaute to the security personnel who sacrified their lives for the honour of the temple of Indian democracy-Parliament and I am sure their names would be written in the golden letters and would inspire the others for their selfless service to the nation.

No compromise on national honour

Sir,

Both India and Pakistan say that three wars have been fought on Kashmir. But it is a live fact that no solution has been found on account of these wars. Even the proxy war initiated in 1989 from across the border has not yielded anything progressive for the masterminds behind the ongoing militancy in the J&K State. The mentors of insurgency left hardly any tactics unpractised which could bring about any conducive end of their Jehadi movement. Earlier the minority of Pandits in Kashmir were made traget. The nude dance of death and destruction showed futher ugly look by conducting massacres on hapless labourers, Sikhs, Women and children. The so-called jehadi movement went uncontrolled and the gun started ruling the roost. This type of culture suited a particular sect in the Valley to grind their own axe. The atmosphere of vengeance started showing its cruel teeth. During the process any daring tongue was made silent and nationalist class was thrown out of place. The mothers lost their dear ones, sisters were abused and ill treated before their strangulated brothers. A microscopic opportunist class misventured according to their sick frame of mind. They dreamt of becoming philanthropists by grabbing the left over property of the displaced lot and by keeping vested nexus with militants they managed their easy way to high living style. These parasites did not leave any thing for administration to intervene.

The recent attack on Parliament complex speaks itself the vulnerable situation. The nation is under passing. The hot statements from both Indian and Pakistani leaders, as do appear on national dailies and other electronic media, clearly gives signal for a full scale war. Though no country is going to gain anything from the war but the national honour for Indian side should atleast be not compromised. The people of J&K State in general and Kashmir in particular are the vital forces who can evade the war which has grimmed the situation. Let us see through the trick of our enemy.
