Elections in J&K State

Sir,

The recent news item indicating Mr Shabir Shah's willingness to contest elections and to bring out the true representatives speaks for his anxiety to bring an end to ugly situations prevailing in the State.

Judging from his keenness to find a pragmatic solution for the vexed problem, striving to retrieve the last glory in Kashmir, his role in the prevailing conditions is very much valued as he makes himself valuable. His inclination to contest elections but under the supervision of either international observers or Indian intelligentsia reflect his positive approach for the improvement of internal disorder, a cumulative voice of one and all.

Mr Shah's inhibitions to conduct elections in free and fair manner is the outcome of past mistakes that has made life wretched and unpleasant in Kashmir.

If it may not sound hyperbolic, personally I do not see eye to eye with Mr Shah's desire to conduct elections under the supervision of International observers. It will be like dressing the skelton with another man's skin. This may give a bad taste. As regards choice for Indian Intelligentsia it reeks and aesthetic sense and should pose no hitch in accepting it to plug doubts and apprehensions. Here I have some names quite prominent that may suit you to carry on your noble mission.

Mr. T. N. Seshan, Mr. Jyoti Basu, K. P. S. Gill, Kiran Bedi, Mr Sangama. These names are quite familiar and needs no further introduction and elucidation.

Besides let be very frank here that it ultimately depends upon the people to seek and search for the architect for delivery of goods in a scientific and rational way. It is therefore, our moral duty to educate the masses instilling in them the right choice persuading not to be swayed by the greedy politicians and their dramatic pledges.

It also looks odious to doubt the integrity of the Election Commission of India who have conducted the elections in our country from time to time. J&K State is the only unfortunate State where the people are dis-satisfied and resentful losing their faith in this highest Institution.

In the end let all of us work consciously and bring back the lost glory of Kashmir.

Joint Council issue -I

Sir,

Kindly refer to the news item "Joint Council stands dissolved: Kaul".

In this connection I would like to request Mr Koul (Advocate) through the columns of Daily Excelsior that instead of saying that Joint Action Council stands already dissolved by him carries no weight. Of course, he could have said that he has resigned as Chairman from JAC on certain grounds. He has unnecessarily created a confusion among Kashmiri Pandit community which is bad in all senses.

Joint Council issue -II

Sir,

This has reference to the news items "Joint Council stands dissolved" (DE dated Dec. 6). The dissolution of joint Council by the Chairman speaks volumes of the tactics played by a group against the Pandit community. These elements under one garb or the other wanted to emerge as community leaders to fulfill their personal ends. Mr P L Koul Advocate has genuinely expressed concern over showing his name in the working group, as he did not attend one such meeting. They issue statements concocted baseless and without any factual position. You need all appreciation for this daring and sincere piece of work.

Yours et.....
P. K. Koul (Budgami)
