Increasing Traffic on Jammu roads

Sir,

Are roads, lanes, streets and bazars of Jammu city becoming unfit for traffic use? If yes, then what is the most suitable answer? Authorities are aware of these questions and have keenly been planning for improving the situation that is why construction of flyovers took birth in Jammu city but still a lot has to be done. Whether it is the old city or extended areas across the Tawi river towards the Akhnoor road, on the Ban Talab axis, expansion in and around Talab Tillo areas, the common man fails to get relief on roads and to keep himself away from the noise, smoke pollution being created by the vehicles plying in Jammu city. A few hard facts which are very badly affecting the safety of the masses on roads and smooth vehicle movements are listed below:-

* The record beating increase in number of vehicles both Commercial as well private made to ply on these roads.

* Movements of Tongas, and animals on the same busy roads and slowing down the speed of vehicles thus jamming the traffic.

* In-adequate parking place for two, four vehicles forcing owners, drivers to place vehicles right in the centre of the road thereby causing nuisance for traffic.

* Extending out portion of shops by shopkeepers and encroaching the width of bazaars, lanes by displaying their goods.

Once we have understood the causes of traffic nuisance on the roads, bazaars why not scratch our minds for getting workable solution to each hazard? Of course involvement of funds, 100 percent public co-operation and sincere efforts by the law enforcing agencies would be dominating factors to achieve the desired results. I would be failing in my duties if I do not give out some suggestions to overcome the problems enumerated above, though in certain cases they appear to be harsh one:-

* For a comfortable but definite period the permission to run more commercial vehicles in Jammu city by stopped.

* Not out-dated vehicles which are just polluting the city with rattling noise and thick black smoke be permitted to come in town.

* Complete ban on the 407 TATA Mini buses entry into the Municipal area/limits of Jammu city till definite modifications for not producing noise and smoke pollution are done on these vehicles.

* A detailed survey of all the bazaars, streets, lanes, roads inside Jammu city and to identify them for declaring fit/unfit for different type of traffic purpose.

* Lastly, to my mind, the most important fault rectifying factor to make Jammu roads fit for traffic is willingly (with an honest approach) accepting the responsibility towards duty by the people from all fields and religiously honouring the bindings imposed.

Pak gameplan

Sir,

The attack on Parliament was another gory chapter in the larger book of violence. The attempt was to wipe out the top brass of political leadership of our country so as to wreck havoc on a larger scale.

It is now clearly manifested that Pakistan is playing double cross to exploit the situation after US reprisal attacks. The idea behind joining global coalition was to wash her hands off dirty deeds which were getting exposed to the world. The hawkish military rulers in Pakistan who have tasted humiliation in all the four wars against our army are desperate to provoke India by any means to again engage her in a war which under the circumstances would suit Pakistan more favourably than the US. The escalation in terrorist strikes and repeated warning to India by President Musharraf is a part of the same play to incite India. But there are well and true reasons why would India prefer restraint rather than having a bash at their harbourers. First the world hasn't came out openly to give genuine recognition to our concerns about' cross border terrorism'.

If fact Pakistan after Sept. 11 attacks has won accolades from every Tom, Dick and Harry. Ironically, US has been overwhelmingly showering Praise on Musharraf Given the attitude to free world, any action by India would land her in trouble and may be dubbed as an "aggressor". Secondly, it would lend Pak President an anormous opportunity to regain a foothold and strengthen its underbelly in Pakistan with infuriated Mullahs and their cohorts having blasted him for deserting an important member working in tamdem with Pak.

The relentlessly hostile Pak Govt. and their media have nasty designs to heighten tension between the people of both countries. We therefore, have a challenge in our hands to deal both and we must stand united the way our political parties have to thwart these attempts.
