Computer Literacy programme

Sir,

It is an admitted fact that invention of the computer is one among the finest inventions of human brain. It is providing many facilities to mankind. It has made many jobs of man very easy and accurate. Today if we consider two questions, (1) list the works which are done by computer, (2) list the works which are not done by computer, Surely the reply of former question will be bigger than the reply of latter.

One can easily guess that in the near future there will be immense use of computers in every field. The present big stores of files in offices will be reduced to small rooms with some computers in which whole records will be available. The present multi storeyed buildings of libraries with lacs of books in the Institutes will be reduced to small cabins of computers having internet connection where one will be able to see any book available in any part of the world. The work of the post offices will be reduced to a great extent because every one will prefer e-mail. Through e-mail one can send his letter to any corner of the world just in seconds. The use of pen and paper will be reduced and even people will prefer to read news paper from computers.

It is my opinion that the present scholars will feel themselves illiterate if they will not be computer knowing. At present we say that a person is said to be literate if he/she knows 3 Rs. where first R means reading, 2nd R means writing and 3rd R means elementary arithmatics. I think very soon this definition of literacy will be changed and new definition will be as-a person will be literate if he knows 4 Rs. where first R means reading, 2nd R means writing, 3rd R means elementary arithmatics and 4th R means computers.

Keeping in view the importance of computer, I here suggest that computer literacy programme should be launched very soon. Under this programme computers should be introduced in schools from 6th class and syllabus of the subject should be distributed in such a way from 6th to 10th classes so that a student after passing 10th class should be able to use computers. Every employee should be provided an opportunity to get atleast one year diploma in computer applications. In fact, this scheme be launched in such a way so that every person who can read and write may become computer literate.

Double standards

Sir,

The statement given by American secretary of State Colin Powell regarding attack on Indian Parliament, is quite ridiculous in which he has suggested a joint probe by India & FBI into the incident. I want to ask one simple question to Mr. Powell-Could America agree to hold joint probe into Sept. 11 attacks alongwith Taliban & Members of Al-Qaeda? If not why should India just consider this demand? After attack on Parliament India has been asked to exercise restraint. Why couldn't America exercise restraint after Sept. 11 attacks? Why to adopt such double standards? And mind you, this hypocrisy & double Standards have resulted in Sept. 11 episode and if America continues with the same policy like that of shielding persons like Gen. Musharraf there will be many such Sept. 11's in store for America future. If it is Indian Parliament today, it can be Whitehouse tomorrow. Sooner the America recognises this fact & musters enough courage to call spade a spade, the better it will be for its future.

Act decisively

Sir,

The statement of our Home Minister L K Advani that ''We have allowed ourselves to become a soft society and our Government being a part of same society is also too soft. Even our handling of J&K in the last more 50 years have been wrong." Now the handling of J&K and India are now under your Government's hands. But it seems that not only handling of J&K but India in the last few years has been wrong. In every corner of India, the increased number of ISI men and suicide attacks have increased many folds. Even the Parliament the highest security zone became the soft target.

Who are the creators of "Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). The Government of India or the Government of Pakistan. Sincerely, the Government of India, who freed Azhar Masood and Mustaq Zargar. Now our Government wants Pakistan to arrest them and sent them back to India for trail in the court of justice. For the reasons best known to our present rulers and now Mr. L K Advani wants to accompany them to give them another chance to make them heroes and make another deadly outfits like JeM.

India should act decisively like Israel. God only helps those who help of themselves.
