Minister
inaugurates tube well at Mishriwala Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 22: Works Minister, Mr Ali Mohammed Sagar today cautioned that division of people of Jammu and Kashmir on the basis of religion or region goes to the advantage of Pakistan and terrorists. Addressing a public meeting while inaugurating a tube well at Mishriwala Migrant Camp near here today he said Pakistan is hell bent upon fomenting the communal tension in the state by killing innocent people. He said to achieve this design the Sikhs have been gunned down in Gurudwaras, Muslims in mosques and Hindus including Kashmiri Pandits in their religious places. Making a strong dig at protagonists of statehood movement for Jammu he said the people talking in those terms must know that Jammu is beyond Shahidi Chowk and Raghunath Bazar. He said National Conference (NC) has given many sacrifices in safeguarding the unity of the state and no body will be allowed to fragment it. Even during the last 12 years of the Pak sponsored terrorism hundreds of party men sacrificed their lives to maintain the unity of the state and keep the party flag unfurled. Without naming Hurriyat Conference the Minister said those who talked of the Talibanisation in Kashmir are now fed up and are ready for dialogue. This has not happened overnight but with the tireless efforts of Party and its workers who stood like a rock to defeat the designs of terrorists, he added. Cautioning the people of state against the nefarious and evil designs of Pakistan Mr Sagar said the country which created the Taliban took lead in eliminating them. Same treatment will meet the Kashmiris through her, he warned. The Minister said a conspiracy has been hatched to defame Islam which is the religion of humanity and peace. He said Islam is against the violence and killing of innocent people. He said terrorism has serious repercussions and this is the reason that Pakistan which was sponsoring terrorism has realised this fact now and has started talking of peace. The Works Minister said NC is committed to the development of the state and despite facing many hardships the Government gave priority to development of the state. He sad inauguration of tube well near the Camp site at Mishriwala was also a part of that commitment which the Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah had made with the people here last year. He said the work on the R&B road in the area is in progress while a water supply scheme for migrants has been completed at Udhampur. The Minister said though people of state suffered a lot during the 12 year long terrorism no body realised our problem at Centre. The situation is same at present also and though Dr Abdullah apprised every Central leader of the situation including Mrs Sonia Gandhi of Congress they never took it seriously, he alleged. But now they have realised what Dr Abdullah was telling them, he said and added that NC has raised the voice against the Pak sponsored terrorism when it was in peak in Punjab during 1983. He said it was Dr Abdullah who declared at that time that the terrorism in Punjab be crushed with iron hands otherwise it will grip the entire nation. But instead of taking action on our suggestions we were dubbed the supporters of Binderawale, he regretted. He said even allegations and propaganda was made that if NC will come to power it will go for Islamisation in J&K without realizing that it is the only party which can protect the pluralistic character of the state. He said we did not only keep the flag of secularism intact in the country but also fought against the two nation theory by giving a befitting reply to Pak aggressors in 1947. These were our cadres who gave the slogan "Hamlavar Khabardar, Ham Kashmiri Hain Tayar"(beware aggressors we Kashmiris are ready). The Minister however hailed the people of Jammu for exhibiting courage despite the provocations from the enemy who was bent upon creating communal tension in this region as well. He said the people of Jammu did not only maintain brotherhood but embraced the Kashmiri people irrespective of their religion during the mass exodus in 1990. Earlier speaking on the occasion, Mr Sat Paul Lakhotra MLA Raipur Damana said NC is committed to mitigate the sufferings of the people of the state. He while asking the masses to strengthen the hands of Dr Farooq Abdullah said NC is the only Party which is working for the development of all three regions in the state. NC MLC and Minority Cell general secretary, MR Bhushan Lal Bhat while speaking on the occasion reiterated that the return of the displaced people to their homes and hearths is top on the Governments agenda. He also handed over a memorandum to Minister regarding the problems of the camp inmates. The Chief Engineer, PHE while giving the resume of the scheme said with its commissioning the water scarcity problems will be curtailed in the area. The Relief Commissioner Migrants, Mr Dalip Singh also accompanied the Minister during his visit. Among others Minority Cell organisor Messrs M K Talashi, district chief Rattan Lal Pandita, M L Munshi and Shiban Ji and chairman Camp Mishriwala Prem Nath were also present. Earlier the Mr Sagar was given a memorandum by the people of Anuradha Puram Barnai and Sharda Colony Patoli regarding laying of new water supply pipes in the area. |

Cong will not allow
Resettlement Act to implement Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 22: Criticising ruling State Government for bringing out controversial Resettlement Act from the cold-storage, Pradesh Congress Committee chief Mohammed Shafi Qureshi today accused National Conference of hatching conspiracy to exploit religious sentiments of the people. Addressing a public meeting at Gandhi Nagar, PCC chief termed Resettlement Act as Act of Destruction which, according to him, will uproot lakhs of people, who had migrated from Pakistan during partition and have settled in this region. "This Act will have dangerous ramification", he cautioned but asserted that Congress will not allow Government to implement this Act at any cost. "In 1982 when the then National Conference had introduced this Act in the Assembly, the State Congress party had strongly opposed that move", he recalled and declared that Congress will not hesitate to give any sacrifice for frustrating this move. Cautioning people against nefarious designs of National Conference, Mr Qureshi alleged that keeping in the view the forthcoming Assembly elections, State Government has been trying to exploit religious sentiments of the people. "Resettlement Act is an attempt to exploit sentiments of the people", he said and criticised Central Government for maintaining a silence over this controversial Act. "The way BJP has maintained a criminal silence over this issue indicates that State Government has brought this Act out with the connivance of Central Government", he said and exhorted the people to expose real face of the BJP. Mr Qureshi was of the view that with the bogey of Resettlement Act National Conference wants to exploit Muslim sentiments while BJP has been eyeing on Hindu votes. Coming down heavily on ruling National Conference for its failure to mitigate woes of the masses, Mr Qureshi regretted that it was very unfortunate that a non-serious person like Dr Farooq Abdullah was at the helm of the affairs in this State. "Farooq Government has nothing to do with the welfare of the masses, only aim of this Government is to make more and more money", he said and lambasted the Chief Minister for, what he alleged, doling out license to his Ministers to adopt corrupt practices and loot public exchequer. Pointing towards unholy nexus between BJP and NC, PCC chief expressed surprise that both the parties have entirely different ideologies but they are ganged up only to loot public exchequer. Taking a dig at Ministers of the State Government, Mr Qureshi alleged that for the last five years NC leaders have amassed huge property. "Instead of providing shelter to the homeless people, NC leaders have constructed their buildings in almost all provinces of the State", he said and pointed towards the palatial house constructed by the Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah at Bathindi, Jammu. Shifting all blames on National Conference for the prevailing situation in the State, Mr Qureshi recalled it was National Conference under the leadership of Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah which had exploited sentiments of the people for more than 25 years in the name of plebiscite. Former Member Parliament and president of the Human Right cell of the PCC, Mr Janak Raj Gupta had organised the meeting. In his address he highlighted the problems being faced by the residents of border and rural areas. Prominent leaders of the PCC also attended the meeting. |
