KPs concern over conversion of shrine into
water supply scheme

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Dec 13: Peeved over the Government’s reported move of converting the Hindu religious shrine of Mangleshwar into a water supply scheme, the Kashmiri migrants from twin villages of Monghama and Sirnoo in Pulwama district of Kashmir have demanded immediate rescinding of the decision.

The Mangleshwar is the ancient Shrine of Kashmiri Pandits and the same is mentioned in revenue records, said Mr Pushkar Nath one of the office bearers of the Mangleshwar Asthapan Management Committee while talking to this correspondent.

He said as per the revenue survey number 992/349 the total land possessed by the shrine is one kanal and two marlas, out of which the holy spring exists on two marlas.

He said every year the religious functions are being performed at this shrine and devotees from the adjacent villages throng there to pay their obeisance.

He said the Kashmiri Pandits are in no way averse in using the water of this holy spring for drinking purposes by constructing the water supply scheme outside the shrine. But the way the Government is going to close the shrine by ordering construction of water supply scheme within the premises of religious place has hurt the sentiments of the entire Hindu community, he added.

While criticising the move Mr Dwarika Nath another Kashmiri migrant from the village said the decision is bereft of sincerity on the part of the State Government and the move is totally aimed at grabbing the Hindu religious place existing from years together.

He while challenging the decision of the Government said from one side it is making the loud claims of the minorities return to Valley and on the other it is trying to grab their religious places which is the main link of the minorities to the land.

The decision has come even when over 15 Kashmiri Hindu families are putting up in the twin villages and visiting the religious shrine regularly.

Apprehending the move aimed at usurping the shrine, Mr Pushkar Nath said in the past Muslims at a number of times made claims over the shrine but their moves were scuttled by the authorities of the time.

He said a dispute over the religious place also took place in 1980 when the Hindus of the twin villages managing the Asthapan were given a permission by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to take the possession of two felling Chinar trees in the shrine.

However, the Muslims objected to it and the Tehsildar Pulwama who was deputed as inquiry officer for onspot verification after going through revenue records released the wood in favour of the Hindus as the records showed the shrine belonging to them.

He said the Government’s reported move has come as a rude shock to entire Kashmiri Pandit community.

In a letter to Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and Chief Minister, the migrants of the twin villages have apprised him of factual position regarding the Hindu Shrine.

They have expressed the hope that good senses will prevail on the authorities and they will not go ahead with the decision. However, these migrants have maintained that they have no objection if the water supply scheme is constructed outside the shrine and the sanctity of the religious place is maintained.

Sarpanch uses power without authority
They lost hair for seeing eunuchs dancing

Excelsior Correspondent

KATHUA, Dec 13: A Sarpanch of Gabber Khasheradh village in Billawar tehsil today exercised power ‘without any’ and got the heads of three youth shaven off for peeping into a house where eunuchs were dancing on the occasion of a marriage.

The three youth namely Kaka Singh, son of Bachitter Singh, Mohinder Singh, son of Krishan Singh and Bhim Singh, son of Bhagat Ram were returning after attending the marriage of their friend Narinder Singh, son of Sansar Singh of Gabber Khasheradh and they stopped at near a house in the same village where another marriage function was going on.

The youth could not stop them from seeing eunuchs dancing in that house and started peeping from the wall of the house. Before they could enjoy the dance of eunuchs anymore, they were apprehended by loyals of the Sarpanch.

All the youth were taken to the house of Sarpanch where henchmen of Sarpanch Om Parkash, Ram Saran, Jay Krishan and Naresh Singh shove off their hair before humiliating them. The loyals of Sarpanch even gave thrashing to the youth and imposed fine of Rs 2000 on each.

The youth were repeatedly saying that they had not committed any crime and just seeing eunuchs dancing but their repeated pleas were ignored by the Sarpanch and his loyals.

Finding that youth have meagre money with them, the Sarpanch ordered his loyals to collect Rs 200 from each as fine and left them.

To lodge protest against what had happened with them, the youth tried to approach Deputy Commissioner, Kathua but could not meet as he was out of station.

The youth, later, called on representatives of Rajput Sabha namely Gian Singh Pathania and Ranjit Singh who assured them that they will discuss the matter with the administration and police officers for strict action against Sarpanch and his loyals for punishing youth without any fault of their.

Be prepared for Afghanistan like situation
in Kashmir: Amanullah

(Excelsior e-mail Service)

JAMMU, Dec 13: Mr Amanullah Khan, Chairman, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has said that Kashmiris should, on one hand, expect a good news in the near future about Kashmir Issue and Kashmiris freedom struggle and, on the other hand, be prepared to face an Afghanistan like situation in Kashmir.

He said he agreed with Benazir Bhutto on her stand that non-Kashmiri militants in Kashmir were harming Kashmiris freedom Struggle and disagreed on her suggestion that Pakistan should initiate negotiation with India on disputes other than Kashmir as that suggestion was tantamount to burying Kashmir Issue for ever without affording to Kashmiris their fully deserved right of self-determination.

He also said that although Kashmiris armed freedom struggle started by JKLF, was yet to achieve its main objectives, the national emancipation, it had nevertheless achieved two important successes, first of giving a new life to the almost dead Kashmir Issue and the liberation movement and secondly it had washed off the black but unjustified spot of cowardice from the face of Kashmiri nation.

He was addressing a seminar arranged by Jammu Kashmir Student Liberation Front (JKSLF) in Rawalpindi Press Club the other says.

The JKLF Chairman said that after return of normalcy in Afghanistan the International Community might well pay keen attention to Kashmir and persuade India and Pakistan to solve Kashmir Issue and said that in the light of past experience and bitter ground realities, the only practicable and equitable solution of Kashmir Issue was that the divided Jammu Kashmir State be reunited peacefully, in phases and under the supervision of the international community and made a fully independent State with a democratic, federal and secular system of government and having friendly relations with both India and Pakistan.

He said that some highly placed US officials were dubbing Kashmiris armed freedom struggle as terrorism and intend to treat Kashmiris freedom fighters the same way as they treated in Taliban. As such, Kashmiri should be mentally prepared to face a situation like that of Afghanistan, he said. Amanullah Khan said that he agreed with Benazir Bhuttos’ stand that non-Kashmiri militant harmed Kashmiris’ freedom struggle irreparably but he disagreed with her suggestion that Kashmir Issue be put into background and other issues be discussed with India. The suggestion, he said was tantamount to burying the Issue for ever thereby depriving Kashmiris of the inherent and pledged right of self-determination. The seminar was also addressed by Sardar Aftab Advocate, Tahir Ayub Advocate, S. Sabir Gul, Raja Mazhar, Tahir Rahim, Sardar Tahir Mehfooz and others.
