Power cut on Janam Ashtami

Sir,

Lord Krishna's Janam Ashtami (Birth day) is one of the biggest religious festivals of Hindus. Moreover, unlike other festivals it is generally celebrated through out the day and night. It was on the eve of Janam Ashtami, it was deserved that power cuts remained operative in the city throughout day and night. It has been observed that such kinds of electricity cuts are not being followed in case of the festivals of other religious groups. This kind of step-motherly treatment with Hindus on their religious festivals amounts to a discrimination and this shows the apathy of the State Govt, towards Hindus. By doing so, the State Govt, has injured the feelings of the Hindu Community of Jammu. Will the State Govt rise above from such prejudices and discrimination before the people are forced to come out to the streets and indulge in vandalism.

Doctor's night duty

Sir,

The Junior Doctors are made to perform Night duties in District Hospitals and the duty ranges usually from 8 PM to 8 AM i.e for 12 hours at a stretch. The normal duty of a Government Servant is fixed for 6 hours or at the most 8 hours but in the case of Medicos the duty during the night is for 12 hours which is not only in-human, Barbaric and violates the human rights. No extra money is paid to the Medicos performing such a duty for 12 hours. The Government should think over the matter and depute at least 2 Medicos during the night so that the duty is distributed equally for 6 hours for each Doctor. In this way the doctors will perform their duties with great zeal and will lookafter the patients with more energy. Moreover some basic facilities should be provided to them particularly during this scorching summer so that they can also take rest during the free time. The human rights agencies should also take notice of the plight of the Medicos and come to their rescue.

Secret voting

Sir,

It refers to confession of NDA convenor George Fernandes about pressure running of the Union Government under influence of its allies! To discomfort of the Union Government, George made a big 'mistake' in disclosing the fact of sacked UTI chief being appointed under pressure of former NDA friend Jayalalitha. Every one knows the malfunctioning of co-alition Governments under pulls and pressures of allies. It may be Mamta Banerji or Bal Thackeray for the Union Government, or Naresh Agrawal for UP Government. Such party bosses have always made ordinary MPs/MLAs dance to their tunes for personal ambitions of big bosses. Corruption and inefficiency are necessary evils to be ignored in costly handling to 'jumbo' sized co-alition ministries. However Tamilnadu politics is most suited for public interest where rival camps expose each other during their respective regimes, unlike in general cases where ruling persons share corruption with opposition leaders to keep their mouths shut!

For an ideal system in national and public interest, Prime Minister, Chief Ministers should be free to work in cost-efficient system with small ministries. It can be only by eliminating supremacy of 'big' party bosses by giving MPs/MLAs right to elect Prime Minister/Chief Ministers by absolute majority through secret voting in the lower House on nomination signed by atleast one-third members of the house. Such an elected Leader may be free to form ministry, subject to one-tenth strength of the lower House, from any party without any necessity to invite nominations for the party without any necessity to invite nominations for the ministry from party bosses. No-confidence motion may only be allowed for the secret voting on written demand of at least one-third members of the House. For impartial business of Houses, Speakers and Deputy Speakers should also be elected by secret voting!
