Isolate foreign militants

Sir,

The unilateral declaration of Ceasefire by the Govt of India as a part of goodwill gesture for finding a long and lasting solution to the Kashmir imbroglio has brought to fore certain basic issues related to the conduct of three principle constituents i.e. Security Forces, militants and the people of the State. The attitude and response of all these parties needs to be viewed in the light of their past and prevailing circumstances.

It goes to the credit of the Security Forces that inspite of repeated provocations, even at the cost of buying casualties, that they have held their fire as disciplined body of troops are ought to do. Similar has been the attitude of the local population which has not only welcomed the goodwill gesture but has also extended their whole hearted gratitude by clamouring for further extensions of ceasefire including asking for permanent solution to the J&K problem. However, the same cannot be attributed to the third party which, oblivious to the ground realities after enforcement of ceasefire, continues to perpetuate undesirable and heinous crimes. Miserably divided, directionless and isolated their mounting frustration is evident in the daily quota of wanton killings of civilians. These blood thirsty militants and their foreign mentors have failed to realize that the guns have to finally given way to the genuine desire of the people for return of peace and prosperity to the State of J&K. It is high time that the local militants too realize as to what good for them and the people of J&K, and they shed off the yoke of foreign militants, who are here only to make a fast buck at their cost.

Clarification

Sir,

This has reference to the news items published on 8/3/2001 in the Excelsior.

The enquiry ordered by the Commandant 61 Bn, CRPF on alleged rape attempt on 60 years old women at Andasraj Chasma near Ranibagh Qadipura locality was conducted. According to the inquiry reports it is found that during that time on CRPF personnel was out of Raghunath Mandir camp near Qadipura. It is a total fabricated baseless story to blame CRPF personnel.

Militancy stunts development

Sir,

The 10 years old militancy has now begun to cast its evil shadow over the functioning of Border Road Organisation (BRO) in the Jammu region. This became apparent when the road construction and maintenance activities on Surankot-Poonch road had to be suspended recently due to sustained terror campaign unleashed by foreign mercenaries against 2000 unarmed local casual labourers employed on this project.

"Till last year the threats were confined to occasional incidents of intimidation and confrontation by foreign militants, but in the past three months there have been serious threats of physical elimination of workers coupled with attempts to blow up isolated culverts and construction equipment lying unattended at the work sites' stated a labourer hailing from a neighboring village. Local sources have revealed that the violent incidents perpetuated by foreign militants in the past few months are due to the simmering discord which has surfaced between the local and foreign militants over sensitive issues affecting the local population.

Targeting an organization like BRO by foreign militants is understandable as it is one of those premiere institutions which is not only involved in the maintenance and upkeep of thousands of Kms of roads in the Jammu region, but also contributes significantly to the socio-economical upliftment of the remote and inaccessible areas by utilisation of local resources and employment of thousands of local labourers. Whatever may be the propagated reasons for their actions, it is apparent that these foreign militants or hired mercenaries have neither any sympathy for the poverty ridden poor labourers nor any care for the sentiments of the local population. By these acts they are simply ensuring their aim of taking Jammu region back to the medieval times.

Foreign goods in India

Sir,

It refers to 'open-door' policy allowing foreign goods freely available in Indian Markets. Each and every trade in India is presently under deep trouble with traders suffering heavy losses with family and business expenses running as usual! Such a situation is likely to cause bankruptcy, unemployment and other such features which may disturb law and order in a big way! It is unfortunate that economic policy allegedly of 'reforms' drafted by earlier regimes to please foreign nations is now adopted by NDA Government also ! It is not understood how our Finance Ministry makes 'good' export on papers while exporters are crying because of hardships and losses! If Government is right, then why it delays duty-drawback of exporters?

Imported goods will definitely harm Indian industries very badly. We are certainly heading for economic slavery which will be even worse than the British slavery of pre-independence era. Union Government should adopt 'Swadeshi' in true spirit by banning liberal imports. Only public sector units should be allowed for import of goods and technology that too to force Indian companies to bring innovation in consumers' interest! For example, it is senseless to allow foreign companies to produce costly cars for Indian roads. Public sector Maruti should have been only allowed to import new technology for cars with a motto to force Indian companies for new technologies in cars!
