Unfounded
English grammar
Sir,
Really grammar
cannot be separate from a language just as flesh
cannot be separated from bones. Bones and flesh
are interwined to beautify the emaciated body.
Thus grammar is the base or the foundation stone
of the language edifice.
But it is a
tragedy that the present Grammar syllabus
prepared by the Board (BOSE) in English language
is a mere potch hotch and has led to students
especially of class X into a mire of choas and
confusion. It neither resembles the CBSE nor the
foreign pattern. The present Grammar recommended
"Essentials of English Grammar" which
the students have been compelled to buy, does not
fulfil the fundamentals of Grammar, being a mere
work book. God knows the mystery behind
recommending such a book. In my students days. I
got through a grammar by "E.E.Speights that
fulfilled all the bases of grammatical items with
elaborate details. The latest book of Wrenen
& Martin also serves better purpose, where
the important seven pillars of Grammar like Noun,
verb, Adjective, Adverb, Article, Conjunctions
and interjections have been elaborated besides,
types of sentences, punctation Analysis,
synthesis and narration. The present book
recommended by the BOSE jumps from Tenses, to
Auxiliaries and then to interrogatives without a
systematic approach.
The Board
authorities should either introduce the
"Tree Diagram form of functional
grammar" or introduce objective items
touching tenses, agreement between subject and
verb, filling of sentences with
noun/adjectival/Adverbial clauses and thus embalm
the injured psyche of Xth Class students treading
a path of confusion and avoid presenting jumble
of haphazard sentences without an indepth study
of the fundamental rules of Grammar set in the
examination papers.

Pak Oppression
Sir,
The news, report,
'Gen Musharraf for drastic action against
anti-Pak gps', should come as an eye opener for
all those who advocate merger with Pakistan. It
is yet another example of the chocking democracy,
and fundamental rights violation of the Pak
citizens. Any plea for basic rights there is
termed as 'anti-Pak'. The cries of the people
Sind, Gilgit, Baltisan, (Northern areas) paints a
fair picture of the plight of the common man for
all to see. But, for the rulers Pak these cries
go unheard, Human Rights violating, oppression of
the Press, selective killings, sectarian
violence, young men becoming scapegoats for the
so termed jehad in neighbouring countries, flesh
trade are the signs of a degenerating democracy.
The country is on its way to become another
Taliban. One can imagine a future in a country
like this Or rather the end of it. This is a
warning shot for us to beware of the few who are
misleadings the masses and promising a better
world there. The grass is always greener on the
other side of the fence. But in this case the
other side is strewn with just death and misery.

Isolate foreign
militant
Sir,
The unilateral
declaration of Ceasefire by the Govt of India as
a part of goodwill gesture for finding a long and
lasting solution to the Kashmir imbroglio has
brought to fore certain basic issues related to
the conduct of three principle constituents i.e.
Security Forces, militants and the people of the
State. The attitude and response of all these
parties needs to be viewed in the light of their
past and prevailing circumstances.
It goes to the
credit of the Security Forces that inspite of
repeated provocations, event at the cost of
buying casualties, that they have held their fire
as disciplined body of troops are ought to do.
Similar has been the attitude of the local
population which has not only welcomed the
goodwill gesture but has also extended their
whole hearted gratitude by clamouring for further
extensions of ceasefire including asking for
permanent solution to the J&K problem.
However, the same cannot be attributed to the
third party which, oblivious to the ground
realities after enforcement of ceasefire,
continues to perpetuate undesirable and heinous
crimes. Miserably divided, directionless and
isolated. Their mounting frustration is evident
in the daily quota of wanton killings of
civilians. These blood thirsty militants and
their foreign mentors have failed to realize that
the guns have to finally given way to the genuine
desire of the people for return of peace and
prosperity to the State of J&K. It is high
time that the local militants too realize as to
what good for them and the people of J&K, and
they shed off the yoke of foreign militants, who
are here only to make a fast buck at their cost.
Yours etc..
