No solution in sight

Sir,

Since the day one our country was forcibly driven to suffer the pangs of partition, the Kashmir problem has been acting as a festering wound on the body-politic of the nation.

By virtue of gross mishandling of the Kashmir problem by the successive Governments, it has steadily grown into a perennially bleeding trauma and if the same continues and weak kneed approach continues the day is not far when it will transform into a Gangrene abruptly shutting all outlets and channels of communication and in that event we shall be left with no option but to resolve the Kashmir imbroglio through full-fledged war with certain possibility of putting nuclear capability of two poor developing nations to fatal test. When the present brand of politicians in the conglomerate of NDA Government were in the opposition camp, they had number of solutions. They used to prescribe the recipes in a thundering tone to the then Central Govt. time and again. But when they held the reins of the Government Machinery and had a taste of political power, they got mesmerised and stuck into the quagmire of glamour of power. It will be no exaggeration to call them Paper Tigers and maniac for political lust.

Every now and then the Home Minister issues the statement about pro-active approach towards the terrorists but in reality terrorists have implemented the pro-active policy against the security forces.

Our Prime Minister has launched the peace initiative by declaring Unilateral cease fire from the month of Ramzan but till date the Government has not been able to decide who will talk and to whom for the final solution of Kashmir tangle.

Terrorism has increased manifold in the tenure of this Government and has tightened its grip on prominent towns of Jammu province. There is no change in the attitude of Pak. Terrorists have rejected the peace initiative but our Home Minister and Prime Minister keep on promoting peace. They also wasted the opportunity of Kargil war for teaching a lesson to Pakistan and eradicating the terrorism once for all. At present, it seems that government has no solution in sight.

A park for a walk

Sir,

It is said that a walk keeps a person in a good health. But where to go for a walk? Mostly, in all the areas except for Green Belt Park and University Campus, we do not have a proper place for a walk.

Walking is usually done in the green areas or where there is no pollution. But almost all the places in Jammu are not having green parks. And also it is not possible for every body to go to Green Belt park or University daily. Thus, this is my request to the concerned department to make atleast one good and healthy park in every areas so that people living there can inhale pollution free air atleast for 1 hour daily.

It is not out of place to mention here that there is a separate department, namely Gardens and Parks which have adequate funds and as such it is the duty of this Department to maintain the parks. If we take a stock of gardens and parks in Jammu, it would reveal that almost all the gardens and parks are in deplorable conditions and there is no one to see and look after these deserted gardens and parks.

It is therefore, suggested that the concerned department should be made accountable for developing the gardens and parks particularly in Jammu and its surroundings to have greenness for the people living in the congested lanes of the city.

Woes of PSU employees

Sir,

The public sector employees are on strike since March 14, 2001, They have been holding demonstrations and protests to get their demands conceded. On April 11, I witnessed a demonstration held by the families of PSU employees which included women and children. It was very painful to see children protesting in streets instead going to schools.

I was very upset on learning that the J&K Government has become so callous and is unconcerned bent upon putting the families of PSU employees to such hardships and agony.

The agitating employees argue that the managing body of these units is appointed by the Government on the recommendations of Ministers and senior Bureaucrats. They enjoy all sorts of privileges and perks at the cost of PSUs, caring least or paying no attention to the working of these units.

They have no industrial policy to implement, no vision for further development, they lack clear cut direction and work according to their whims and caprices. This may have derailed the whole enterprise and brought the situation to present crises. Ignoring the fault of Managing body, the Government attributes poor performance to the poor employees. The employees are thus paying price for no fault to theirs which is quite disgusting. It is therefore requested to the Government to release their dues to which they are entitled and mitigate the suffering of their families.
