‘Authorities implicating false cases against PDP workers’
Farooq Govt working like mafia: Mehbooba

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Apr 14: Accusing ruling National Conference of adopting repressive measures to stifle voice of the opposition, vice-president of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples‘ Democratic Party (PDP), Ms Mehbooba Mufti today said that State Government has been functioning like a mafia.

Addressing a press conference, Ms Mufti said "NC leaders have ganged up to loot money meant for the development and upliftment of the masses". "This Government is not For the people, Of the people or By the people it is rather a group of the people involved in amassing wealth by adopting legal and illegal means", she said and regretted that Centre Government has also maintained a mysterious silence over the mis-deeds of the State Government.

Coming down heavily on ruling National Conference for its failure to mitigate woes of the masses, Ms Mufti expressed her anguish over, what she called, non-serious and callous approach of the State Government towards the basic problems of the masses. "They don’t have money to give pensions to widows and scholarships to handicapped and other deserving lot of the society but they have enough money to waive off loan of senior Ministers ", she said and asked from where the State Government would generate funds to provide luxuries to former Chief Ministers.

"It is agony that Centre Government has scot free ruling elites to loot inhabitants of this violence plagued State", she lamented and accused ruling party of adopting suppressive measures to snub opposition.

Accusing State Government of fabricating false cases against workers of PDP, Ms Mufti alleged that police has registered a false case against Kishtwar zonal president of the PDP, Mr Shakir Hussain. "Shakir has been fighting for the cause for the retrenched workers of the controversial J P Industries and he has become popular in Kishtwar area. As Shakir has been opposing anti-workers policies of the J P Industries, National Conference leaders have implicated him in false case ‘’, she alleged and added that son of a senior Minister of Farooq Government was behind the entire episode. ``National Conference leader’s son has been minting huge money from the JP Industries that is why on the behest of the company a false case has been registered against Shakir’’ she alleged.

She circulated an official handout which was sent to the family member of Shakir in which it was mentioned that Shakir Hussain has been detained under Public Safety Act and been lodged in Sub-Jail Kot-Bhalwal Jammu. Interestingly it was clearly mentioned in the order that Shakir has been lodged in Kot-Bhalwal Jail but he was moving freely.

Pointing towards the Government order issued by the District Magistrate Doda, Ms Mufti said that authorities have only issued order but arrested Shakir. "They are planning to kill Shakir in fake encounter as according to Government record he has been lodged in Kot Bhalwal Jail from March 18, 2001 ", she raised apprehension.

Later talking to EXCELSIOR, Shakir Hussain who is official lodged in the Kot-Bhalwal Jail under Public Safety Act said that case registered against him was false. He expressed surprise that if he was involved in some activities why authorities have let him free. "They want to kill me in fake encounter that is why they have officially declared that I have been lodging in the Kot-Bhalwal Jail from March 18 ", he said and blamed senior NC leader for entire episode.
