Untimely exposure

Sir,

No doubt Tehelka .Com has come out with a video tape which exposes how political parties receive donations plus the corrupt practices even in defence deals. But the Tehelka .Com in the interest of the nation should have stopped it for a couple of days because it was the time when India could have earned much more than it has won during last few years in terms of Kashmir imbroglio. India was right on top when United Nations secretary general Mr Kofi Annan categorically rejected all Pakistani's demands of solving Kashmir issue according to U N resolutions and setting up of separate human rights violation cell. Unfortunately untimely exposure of Tehelka during Kofi Annan's visit to India has done great damage. Mr. Kofi Annan's words in India attracted low tone due to sensational frequency of Tehelka which overpowered his statement and wide range of publicity.

Secondly, one should not only think about the defence deal or political donations as evinced in Tehelka's journalism but one should also think how political parties having big heads are just trouble makers and power mongers. Not allowing the genuine discussion in parliament despite of setting up of enquiry commission the opposition has shown that it is least interested for the country's security or going into details of the scam but living outside the government for a few years Congress has become totally frustrated. How immature is the role of Congress which argues that the alleged should be punished without any enquiry.

Besides, defence deals, functioning of political parties, Tehelka .Com has also indirectly unfolded that the present political system in India has developed malignant cells and can not run the country in a healthy way, so it is the high time for political scholars to explore alternative ways like Amercian type to save the country from regular predicted miseries.

Kashmir issue

Sir

The conspectus of Kashmir imbroglio attempted by Satiji (my class fellow in S P College in 40s) in your article 'UN resolution and Kashmir' published on Mar 16, 2001 was as much fascinating as it was informative for the youth born after the (illegal) partition of the subcontinent which was world-known as India, Bharat but with the prevarication of Christian Britain it was divided on simple communal basis and another country known as "Pakistan" created so that (Hindu) India-Anglo -Amercian Block" named it so could not live in peace after the Congress (which they considered was a Hindu political organisation) drove out the foreigners who ruled the land and transferred whole of Indian wealth to their small island and made it prosperous as it is today. It was the basic strategy of the Block then and continues to be so even today, because the foreign ruler left the subcontinent reluctant and with a heavy heart. It considered India 'soney kee chidia' and a milch cow, milking it to the best of ability and making their island a rich country. They succeeded in doing so but failed in staying here beyond August 1947. They thus created a nuisance in our neighbourhood so that India which drove them out , remains on tenterhooks always. They obviously succeeded in their nefarious act and we are menacingly in continued sufferance right from October 1947 Now India having embarked on the capitalist economy it is possible the Block (mainly Amerca) may eased its treatment towards India. The recent statements of Mr. Kofi Annan, Secretary General, United Nations Council, is an indication to this assumption. Otherwise another war, an abhorrent nation by civilized norms, will settle the matter when the Pakistan itself shall get wiped off the world map though we too shall suffer. We try to avoid it.

Clear waiting-list

Sir,

Apropos Mr K L Bhagat's letter published in your Daily dated 20/3/2001.

Telecom department has yet again failed to fullfill its promise of clearing of waiting list regarding provision of fresh telephone connections to the prospective subscribers under Miran Sahib telephone exchange by March 31.

The communication minister in appreciation of services rendered by the telecom department had announced free telephone connections to lakhs of its employees. If it is so, the non clearance of waiting list since July 1996 is not understandable.

Mr. Bhagat's suggestion of detaching some villages from Miran Sahib exchange and their subsequent connection with adjacent Gadigarh Telephone exchange needs consideration of Mr. P C Chalana, chief general Manager Telecom, J&K Circle Jammu so that the difficulty of the low capacity of Miran Sahib telephone exchange is overcome and the prospective subscribers feel not neglected by way of clearance of waiting list.

It is hoped that Mr Chalana, CJM telecom Jammu shall take personal interest in clearance of the waiting list in respect of the Miran Sahib exchange.

It is in place to mention here that the prospective subscribers of Miran-Sahib feel humiliated on learning that somebody in the other area, has got telephone connection after having applied for the same just a few months back.

Yours etc...
