11: Pakistans
military ruler Gen Pervez
Musharraf has admitted that the
US priorities regarding South
Asia had lately shifted away from
Islamabad but asserted that his
country could not be sidelined.
In an interview to a Pakistani
daily from New York, Gen
Musharraf said he was
"satisfied" with the
role of US President Bill Clinton
on the Kashmir issue.
"Indias
non-cooperation is preventing any
progress on the Kashmir
issue," the Chief Executive
of Pakistan told `The News

SC admits
petition challenging Sonias
election from Amethi

today admitted two appeals challenging
Congress president Sonia Gandhis
election to Lok Sabha from Amethi last
year on the ground that she, being an
Italian national, could not be a citizen
of India under the provisions of the
constitution. A three-judge bench

Justice Santosh Hegde and Justice K G
Balakrishnan admitted the petitions of
Hari Shanker Jain, an independent
candidate who was among the 26 defeated
by Gandhi in the elections held on

US considering
to declare LeT terrorist
organisation:

DELHI, Sept 11: The United States is
considering declaring Pakistan-based
militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba a
terrorist organisation, Indias
Ambassador to the US Naresh Chandra said
today. "We are convinced there is
sufficient evidence to take action
against them (LeT). I believe the case is
in process and it is being given final
touches", he told Zee TV. Asked how
soon the action could be taken, he said
"it is difficult to predict how soon
action against LeT will be taken by the
US Government. But it can be

Gen Malik for
political solution to Kashmir
MOHALI,
Sept 11: The Chief of Army Staff, Gen
V P Malik today characterised the Kashmir
tangle as a "politico-military"
affair and called for a political
solution while the Army tackles
insurgency on the ground. He said the
confidence of the Kashmiris would have to
be won to counter their feeling of
alienation. Army was killing at least 150
terrorists, including foreign
mercenaries, in the Valley every month
but of late the use of Improvised
Explosive Devices (IEDs) by the
insurgents had led to an increase in
casualties on the side of the security

Sea-land route
to Iran, Moscow on anvil

DELHI, Sept 11: India will sign an
agreement with Iran and Russia tomorrow
for the construction of a sea-land route
linking the three countries. Surface
Transport Minister Rajnath Singh will
sign the agreement at St Petersburg,
Russia, where Transport Ministers from
Asia and Europe, would be attending a
two-day conference from tomorrow, an
official press note said today. The
sea-land route will be part of the
north-south transport corridor which will
extend to Europe, besides connecting the
three countries. The present trade route
between India and Russia is long, time
consuming and expensive.....more
Two youths
kidnapped, killed in Doda area
