JAMMU, Oct 29: In a spectacular success, troops of Rashtriya Rifles of Delta Force and Ramban police today liquidated seven militants, five of them foreign mercenaries, after a day long gun-battle in the upper reaches of village Khurji in Mangat area of Banihal tehsil in Doda district. An army jawan also lost his life in the gun-fight while a woman was injured in the exchange of firing.........more

6 of a family hammered to death in Hiranagar

KATHUA, Oct 29: Six members of a labourer’s family were hammered to death by some unidentified miscreants at their shop-cum-residence at village Chappar Morh along Jammu-Pathankote national highway, about two kms from Hiranagar last mid-night Hailing from village Samrari in Raipur district of Madhya Pradesh, the family of 40-year old Kanhaya Dass was putting up in the village for the last couple of years and working as labourers. They had no enmity with the locals but rivalry within the labourers was suspected by police as a reason behind the killings........more

George FernandesITANAGAR, Oct 29: In the backdrop of reported Chinese incursions into Arunachal Pradesh, Defence Minister George Fernandes today said the border with that country was quite safe and there was no cause of any concern. Time to time border talks were being held to sort out problems and "our border was absolutely protected and there was no evidence of intrusion as such", Fernandes told reporters at the Raj Bhavan here before leaving for New Delhi after a three-hour visit.
