DELHI, Oct 27: The Minister for
Home Affairs, Mr LK Advani, has declared that
Pakistan and its open support to armed
militants and imported mercenaries can in
no way rupture the "constitutional,
legal, administrative and
historical" link between the State
of Jammu and Kashmir and the Indian
Union. Mr Advani has warned that the
authorities in Jammu and Kashmir would
definitely launch tougher measures if
Pakistan continued to aid and abet the
insurgency and militancy and violate
ground rules along the Line of Control
(LoC) and the International Border (IB)

Information and Protocol Pintoo
Narboos surprising move to
join the Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP), it has got a new impetus,
which will help the party to
establish a firm root in Ladakh.
After a long affiliation with
National Conference (NC) he left
the Party to join BJP on Monday.
52-year-old Narboo, who is
presently a member of National
Integration Council of India,

Basu to retire, date to
be announced today

Oct 27: Springing a
surprise, the longest serving Chief
Minister in the country, Jyoti Basu today
announced he would quit office soon and
that his Deputy Buddhadev Bhattacharjee
would succeed him. The retirement date
would be announced after a meeting of the
Left Front meeting tomorrow, he said here
but did not give any reason to explain
the suddenness of the decision. However,
he said he would play an active role in
the West Bengal Assembly elections next
