SRINAGAR,Oct 27: While as Kashmir valley today observed a shutdown on 53rd anniversary of the Indian Army’s entry into the State, security forces claimed to have eliminated at least nine militants in two different operations in the border district of Kupwara. President's concern over growing intolerance

President K R NarayananNEW DELHI, Oct 27: President K R Narayanan has said there was "scattered intolerance" in the country which was "worrying" maintaining that keeping silent against campaign of intolerance. In a rare interview given to Malayala Manorama on the occasion of his 81st birth day today, he said "it is not as if everyone has become intolerant. The majority of the people are tolerant. But what is happening is that important people are not condemning intolerance enough". He said he had once remarked that leaders always condemned intolerance even if it was rhetoric. But sometimes many leaders did not even strongly condemn intolerance for the sake of condemning.................more

Mr Advani has warned that the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir would definitely launch tougher measures if Pakistan continued to aid and abet the insurgency and militancy and violate ground rules along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in the State................more
