Pak cricketers revolt against coach Miandad

KARACHI, Oct 18: Seven Pakistan cricketers have revolted against team coach Javed Miandad and an emergency meeting has been called later today to diffuse the crisis, news reports said today.

‘The Dawn’ newspaper quoted highly placed sources to report that the seven players clashed with Miandad, himself a former Pakistan captain, on the distribution of prize money earned from the ICC Knock Out Trophy where the team lost to ultimate winners New Zealand in the semi-finals.

The crisis had initially erupted in Kenya, but deepened after the team’s return on Saturday, the paper said.

Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Lt Gen Tauqir Zia confirmed that he had called the seven players in an effort to avert a crisis. "I came to know of the situation only on Tuesday morning," `The Dawn’ said.

"I don’t want to lose Javed Miandad or the players on the eve on an important test series. I want to settle this issue in a friendly atmosphere," the daily quoted Zia as saying.

The English team has already arrived in Pakistan for a three-test and three-one-dayer series. (PTI)

Jadeja’s presence- a morale boost for J&K Ranji squad

Excelsior Sports Correspondent

JAMMU, Oct 18: Local cricketors have received a big boost as prominent cricketor Ajay Jadeja joined them in nets at Moulana Azad Stadium. Former vice-captain of Indian team was here in connection with the beginning of the preparation and selection camp for the Ranji squad of the state.

Mr Jadeja, who severed ties with his home team Haryana since long, had got himself registered as member of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association last years and is expecting to play as member of J&K squad in the forth-coming Ranji encounters.

Moulana Azad Stadium today witnessed heavy rush as large number of youngsters gathered there to witness Jadeja with bat, ball and on field. But they had to return without seeing action of Jadeja as the prominent cricketor (Jadeja) preferred just to watch local players in action. Star allrounder who was an important member of the national squad before match-fixing scandal, bowled only two balls.

Tinted in much-talked match-fixing scandal, former Haryana cricketor maintained silence over queries of mediamen. He, however, uttered that performance of J&K team will be improved in the coming days. He praised local players and said that J&K squad had performed well in the last Ranji league matches. He recalled that J&K team had defeated star-studded Delhi team in limited over Ranji match previous year.

Local cricketors have reasons to get their morale high as being an experienced player Jadeja will guide them at every point. His presence in the team will not put psychological pressure on the opponent but also give boost to the local team.

In the stadium, people particularly youngsters and children made repeated attempts to have an autograph of the star cricketor but their attempts failed to yield any result as Sports Department and J&K Cricket Association members continued to restrict them from meeting Jadeja.

A teen-aged girl came with a small bat in her hand and asked Jadeja to give autograph but he refused to do so and said that after practice he will give autograph to all. But he left the stadium without fulfilling his promise made with the fans.
