DELHI, Oct 16: The Government of
India will not tolerate financial
indiscipline anywhere in the country,
Finance Minister, Mr Yashwant Sinha has
asserted. The Finance Ministry, he has
reiterated, does not play politics while
deciding on the requirements of States
and Union Territories. The Centre, he
pointed out, was keen on the
socio-economic development of all
regions, particularly backward and
"special category" areas. In an
informal chat with EXCELSIOR on Monday
soon after he opened the three-day
Economic Editors Conference 2000 in
Shastri Bhavan, Mr Yashwant Singh
admitted that Jammu and Kashmir State
falls in "special category"

Kashmir Chief Minister and president of
Awami National Conference (ANC) G M Shah
today called upon all political parties
in the State, including ruling National
Conference to sit together to find
sustainable peace and settlement of the
Kashmir issue. It would be
"appropriate for all of us to sit
together and deliberate over the issue,
enabling the intellectuals and other
right thinking people to arrive at a
consensus for achieving a lasting
solution of this complex problem (Kashmir
