Introduction of local languages in ensuing season: Farooq

Dr Farooq Abdullah SRINAGAR, Oct 8: Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah today said Kashmiri, Dogri and Bodhi would be introduced at primary level from ensuing academic sessions in the State and suggested setting up of three academies on literature, music and drama, instead of existing one, on the national pattern. Speaking at the concluding session of 2-Day All India Kashmiri writers, intellectuals and journalists conference, organised by the Kashmir Lal Ded Foundation, here this evening, the Chief Minister asked the education ministry to take expeditious steps in implementing the local languages in academic curricula. He said red-tapism should not be allowed to come in the way of its implementation.....more

Lone hints at resumption of talks on Kashmir

Abdul Gani Lone SRINAGAR, Oct 8: Senior Hurriyat leader Abdul Gani Lone today said that talks to solve the Kashmir issue could be resumed in the near future. Referring to scuttled talks between the Centre and Hizbul Mujahideen, he said it was not an ordinary development that right wing BJP agreed to talk to a militant outfit. This development proved beyond doubt that meaningful dialogue could be resumed in future to solve the Kashmir issue once for all, Lone said.
