‘Pak has doubled efforts to step-up proxy war’
New Army chief favours political solution to Kashmir

Chief of the Army Staff General S PadmanabhanSRINAGAR, Oct 5: The Chief of the Army Staff General S Padmanabhan today ended a three day visit to Kashmir, his first after assuming charge, declaring that Pakistan is intensifying covering fire on the Line of Actual Control to send across more and more trained militants and sophisticated weapons. The situation on the Line of Actual Control is uneasy with daily exchange of fire, the Army Chief told a press conference here. Describing the LoC as active he said daily exchange of fire between the Indian and enemy troops is a ‘routine’ activity........more


Russia backs India’s efforts on Kashmir; forms JWG

NEW DELHI, Oct 5: Russia today fully backed India’s measures to combat terrorism and usher in normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir and asked Pakistan to respect the Line of Control (LoC) and stop supporting cross-border terrorism for resumption of the Lahore process. In a joint statement issued at the end of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s four-day visit here, Russia reaffirmed its support for India’s efforts to normalise relations ..............more

"Large mercenary bands equipped with heavy weapons like 80 mm mortars are seeking to occupy unmanned heights to try to dominate Indian border posts and this infiltration bid is taking place under cover of heavy Pakistani artillery fire", Gen Oberoi, who formally took over his post today, told PTI..............more
