Gupta asks State Govt to mitigate woes of masses Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 3: The Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, has impressed upon the Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah to take care of the problems facing the people of the instead of passing the buck to the Centre on every issue. Addressing public meeting at Bani Jeodae Mata and Dhar Mahanpur, Prof Gupta said that the growing resentment amongs the people of the State was basically the result of undemocratic, discrimination, communal and injudicious approach adopted by the respective Governments in the State where these were in the National Conference or that of the Congress or there were coalitions of the both. Because of these policies an actions of these Governments accummulated anger is appearing in various forms, violence and demonstrations. He added and regretted that they did not learn the lessons of their wrongs of the past. Referring to the controversial demand for autonomy to the State being raised by the State Government leaders of the National Conference, Prof Gupta said that this demand was not only ill-conceived, but was also ill-timed strangely large sums and time is being wasted to propagate it. About the mounting demand for trifurcation and quadrification of Jammu and Kashmir State so as to have re-organisation, Prof Gupta said that this was also the outcome of the actions and policies of the Governments of both the National Conference as also their associates in the Congress because they never took practical steps to bring to an end to the regional disparities. He pointed out that the demand for autonomy to the State is being raked up on the plea that it was part of their manifesto in 1996 assembly elections but they should know that they had made hundreds of other promises too including that of creation of regional councils within a time of one year. More than four years have elapsed but instead of taking steps to bring to an end to the regional imbalances. A new phenomenon has been created by proposing the decision of the State into eight zones and thus attempts are being made even to divide Jammu region under communal considerations, Prof Gupta added and warmed that such problems have added insult to the already injured sentiments of the people of this region. He expressed his dismay that on the hilly areas of Bani, Basohli, Mahanpur and others, the developmental activities have come to a halt for the past four years and the conditions of the roads is aweful and educational institutions are in a bad shape. The local leaders of these years complained that Dhar Mahanpur has been though put on the map of tourism but not to say of taking any practical steps to create infrastructure, even the roads were missing and link roads were not repaired for year together. At the meeting the local leaders made several other complaints especially regarding unemployment and authorities not attending to the problems of the people. Mr Jaswant Lal (Billa Shah), Mr Lal Chand Shama, Mr Karam Chand, Mr Ravinder Sharma and other party leaders accompanied Prof Gupta in course of his tour of the hilly areas. |

long awareness campaign from Nov Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 3: Not deviating from its old stand on Kashmir the Rashtriya Swyam Sevaksang (RSS) today strongly reiterated its demand of attacking terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pak Occupied Kashmir (POK). Talking to mediapersons here today, the RSS North India Prachar Pramuk, Mr Indresh Kumar said Sangh will never make a double talk on J&K and it firmly sticks to its old stand. He said it is the moral and Constitutional right of India to destroy and finish these camps which are training terrorists to wage a war against our country. He said all terrorist organizations including Hizbul Mujahideen and Harkat-ul-Ansar have their headquarters and top leadership across the border hence we have every reason to attack these camps. When asked why the NDA Government to which BJP is a major partner did not take such a step during last years Kargil war, Mr Indresh Kumar said Government apprehends that such a step may lead to a full scale nuclear war and India as a worlds largest democracy wants to avert an atomic conflict. He while advocating for the abrogation of Article 370 that gives a special Constitutional status to Jammu and Kashmir state said this step will help in the integration of J&K with rest of the country. Lambasting the National Conference (NC) Government for its stand on autonomy, he alleged that autonomy slogan is anti national and no nationalist will support it. In response to a question regarding RSS stand on reorganization of J&K State he said though Sang is not supporting it, yet it is not averse to it as well. Elaborating his point he said the demand for separate statehood to Jammu and UT status to Ladakh is not communal in nature. He blamed the ruling class in J&K for generating such feelings among the people and said the complete neglect of the Jammu and Ladakh regions is the main reason that people of these two regions are demanding the reorganization of state at present. He while making a strong dig at Congress for opposing the abrogation of Article 370 said that Congress Working Committee had expressed strong reservations for giving the special Constitutional status to J&K after accession but the then Prime Minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru promised that it is a temporary provision and will be abrogated after passage of time. He said even the Constituent Assembly unanimously opposed this provision for J&K and it also was given the same assurance by Nehru. He said in connection with celebration of 75th year of its formation, RSS will this year launch a "Chetna" (Awareness campaign) throughout the country to highlight the performance and activities of the Sangh in different fields. Mr Indresh Kumar said while in other parts of the country this campaign will be launched during this month in Jammu and Kashmir state we will start from November 1. He said Sangh volunteers will touch every village during this campaign for mass mobilization. There will be no pomp and show during this over month long movement and no buntings and banners will be hoisted, he added. He said during this campaign main stress will be to imbibe the spirit of patriotism and nationalism among masses all over the country irrespective of their religion, region, caste and language. He said thousands of RSS workers will participate in the movement which will also serve another purpose in militancy infested J&K state where it will help in mobilizing the nationalist forces to thwart the designs of ISI which is bent upon disintegration of the country. The RSS leader said besides the literature, the portraits of the Bharat Mata will also be distributed to people during this campaign. The literature will be available in Hindi and Urdu and for Ladakh it will be in "Bhoti Bhasha". |
