Review School curriculum Sir, Indeed J&K Board of School Education (BOSE) has not done any good by introducing new scheme of studies at secondary level making science and math as compulsory subjects for passing X Class Exam. This step of board has rather shut the doors for further education for rural and other poor students having meagre facilities of Science and Math teachers and other infrastructure. Result percentage of the preceeding session supports our argument. Although the time is fast changing, science subjects are gaining more and more importance, scientists technocrats are more wanted, but at the same time we cannot underestimate the importance of saints and seers. They are the sacred souls. They have upheld the banner of humanity. So it is imperative for us to design our curriculum in such a way so that social & moral values are strengthen and more and more children are involved in education process which is the dire need of the present times. Scarcity of drinking water in Jammu Sir, Apropos the news item ''PHE Kashmir confident to tackle all water crises'' dated Sep 29, 2000 the steps taken by the department needs to be appreciated. Life on earth, for human beings, is not possible, at least, without water so PHE Kashmir has really touched the most genuine and honest demand of the people. What share happen if the PHE Jammu also takes similar efforts to lessen the water shortage in Jammu? The Jammuites have been crying hoarse during whole summer of 2000 for an uninterrupted supply of drinking water. But hardly could their voice go to any right and mindful ear in the authority. Tall claims made by the authorities fall flat on the rock of truthfulness. Even now when the scorching summer is on a fading note, people feel high and dry in absence of proper water supply. The tales of tribulations of the consumers of various areas have already occupied the space in your esteemed daily from time to time. The areas like Sainik Colony, Bantalab, Roop Nagar and Durga Nagar etc still reel under water scarcity. The life of a common man has got bitterly influenced by the non supply of drinking water in these areas. Handful of rich in the locality buy water @ Rs 500/- a tanker but the remaining lot depends only on the Govt supplies. Potable water, meant for consumers, is sold to vested persons at times. As regards the quality of the drinking water, the mute consumers cannot afford to list their complaint for fear of stopping the supply by the concerned agency which might add to their agony. Management of drinking water in our State seems to be poor. It needs to be reviewed and revitalised. Various State Governments in India have started thinking afresh as for water resource management is concerned keeping in view the falling level of water table. Our State Govt should also do all possible efforts to frame up new plans and proposals to save its future generations from threat of life caused due to non availability of fresh water. At the same time all 'pending' water supply schemes should be got completed to enhence the quantity of drinking water. The wastage of drinking water during its transportation is usually under estimated by the people at the helm of affairs. Leakages and punctures in the service pipes is normally overlooked both by the authorities as well as the people. The people (consumers) too have a great role to play and responsibility to share while making any govt programme successful. May it be supply of drinking water to its citizens. Yours etc... |
