Talks only with those who eschew violence: Advani

Minister for Home Affairs, Mr L K AdvaniNEW DELHI, Nov. 21: The Minister for Home Affairs, Mr L K Advani, on Tuesday made it clear that the Government of India would hold talks with those people of Jammu and Kashmir "who eschew the path of violence.'' The Centre in conjunction with the J&K Government is continuing its multi-pronged strategy to counter terrorism in the State, Mr Advani informed the Lok Sabha during the question hour. In his reply to a question by Mr Ajay Singh Chautala and Mr Laxman Seth, Mr Advani stated that the Govenrment of India had, as part of its efforts to normalise the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, instructed the security forces not to initiate combat operations against militants in J&K during the coming holy month of Ramzan.............more

Medicines seized; more arrests likely
Medical officer arrested for pilferage of drugs

KATHUA, Nov 21: Police arrested a Medical Officer, posted in Machhadi hospital of Billawar tehsil Dr Tarsem Kumar red handed while smuggling a large quantity of drugs from the district hospital this morning. The Medical Officer had smuggled the drugs including the life saving ones from the district hospital in connivance with some staff of the hospital. Police was in the process of identifying the accused staff members and their arrest was expected shortly........more

Jagat to be new DG BSF

Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Gurbachan JagatNEW DELHI, Nov 21: Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Gurbachan Jagat is likely to take over as the new Director General of Border Security Force, official sources said here tonight, reports PTI. The sources said Jagat was informed by the Home Secretary about the new appointment this evening. The present incumbent E N Rammohan is due to retire on November 30. A formal order about the appointment of Jagat as DG BSF was expected to be issued within the next couple of days.........more

The arrested militant was a close associate of Mohinder Singh alias Bittu, a constable of Special Operations Group (SOG) and a front ranking militant of ‘Khalistan Zindabad Force’ (KZF).........more

Special recruitment drive in police for migrants: CM

Chief Minister, Dr Farooq AbdullahJAMMU, Nov 21: Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah today said a special drive for recruitment in police will be launched for Kashmiri migrant youth lodged in Kathua camps. Addressing migrants at Govindpur camp Kathua this morning the Chief Minister said he will soon ask the police Chief to hold a recruitment camp soon for displaced young boys and girls. Some migrant youth have already been recruited in the police at Jammu recently. Referring to their employment opportunities, the Chief Minister said the Kashmir migrants could not be recruited against any Jammu post. However, candidates can be considered against the Valley posts in various departments for posting at respective district headquarters...............more

GMC doctor beats-up patient’s attendant

JAMMU, Nov 21: A doctor in Ward No. 2 of Medical College hospital today beat-up an attendant of a firing victim Jitender Singh of Ghou Manasan and refused to examine the patient. This act of Dr Tahir created strong resentment in the Ward with patients demanding stern action against the accused.........more
