Release JAA selection list

Sir,

The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has been treating the Agriculture professionals in a partial and biased way since several years. Despite hundreds of posts vacant in the Departments of Agriculture and Horticulture, the Government is not recruiting these agriculture graduates for unknown reasons. Even the list of successful candidates is not released for which interviews were conducted years back. The J and K SSRB issued an advertisement for filling of vacant posts of Junior Agriculture Assistants (JAA) on 18th August 1998. Agriculture graduates and even post graduates of the State applied for the same. The interviews were conducted in December 1998. But even after two years the SSSRB is yet to declare the list of selected candidates. This has created a feeling of being alienated among the agriculture professionals.

The sufferer of this Government apathy are not only the agri professionals but also the poor farmers of rural areas. In India, majority of population belong to farming community and in the field of Agriculture production is in a developing stage. And, also agriculture contributes to a major portion of the economy. It becomes necessary to upgrade and update the agriculture techniques in rural as to increase production. And, obviously, for this job we require the professionally qualified persons for rural areas to introduce better and advanced farming there. If the same trend in recruiting agri. professionals goes on, the field of agriculture and farming community is likely to suffer by and large. If the Government is really serious about doing something for the betterment of farmers, the vacants posts of JAA in Agriculture and allied departments must be filled up as early as possible. It will also help to save the future of agri. professionals.

Keeping in view the present scenario of both agriculture farming and the fate of agri professionals it is requested to SSRB and State Government to release the list of JAA for which the interviews were conducted in December 1998.

Truth about Sheikh Abdullah

Sir,

This letter of mine refers to the article of Mr Teja Singh and subsequent letters to the editor by a number of writers. These letters have created interest in the minds of Jammuites. I personally feel that Mr Teja Singh has shown great respect to the Late Sheikh Mohd Abdullah as he had worked with him as an I.A.S Officer and is well informed about his former boss (Sheikh). No doubt Sheikh Sahib was a popular leader who spearheaded, the agitation against the Dogra rule and even succeed in putting to an end to the Dogra rule in the State. I would like to request my friend Mr Teja Singh to read between the lives of the following paragraphs and think whether Sheikh Sahib deserves such praise.

Dr Mukherji in his correspondence with Pt. Nehru says ''Constant abuses of and attacks on Dogras as a class by Sheikh Abdullah and his colleagues have created an atmosphere of distrust and bitterness'' among the Jammuites. He even used abusive language against the Maharaja Hari Singh although he had assured him in writing of full support, co-operation and even loyality.

He often became haughty and reacted sharply whenever his actions were stalled. This fact is borne-out when Dr Karan Singh as a Head of the State sought a legal opinion from the Government of India on the enactment of law regarding abolishment of Jagirdari system without any composition. This act was almost rejected by Gopala Swami Aryanger but Pt. Nehru to appease Sheikh Sahib intervened and cleared the decks in its approval.

He always played the politics of self deception and duplicity. He was known as communalist in Kashmir, a communist in Jammu and a Nationalist in Delhi.

He always exploited the religious passions of the peoples and ignored his own pledges and promises...''

He was against the conducting of plebiscite in the State when he was power but when he was out of power he became the Champion of plebiscite and thus pledged the cause of Pakistan.

''He mooted the resettlement Act 1982 to issue Permits to those Muslims of J&K who had migrated to Pakistan in 1947 and had become citizens of Pakistan, to resettle them in the State only to cause social and economic distruption (especially in Jammu Division) and also to tilt the existing balance of population.''

By bringing the above facts I do not want to tarnish the image of Sheikh Sahib as painted by Mr Teja Singh but I want to bring to the notice of Jammuites that how the disinformation about Jammu and Kashmir issue is still being made out to create confusion.

There is no safai Karamchari deployed in the area, with the result there are heaps of garbage everywhere. The Jammu Municipal authorities are requested through your esteemed paper to take up sanitation drive in Bhawani Nagar as well so that every part of the city gives a good look.

Unauthorised parking at G. Nagar

Sir,

In Gandhi Nagar there is a beautiful Green Belt inside of which there is a road that separates the Green Belt from the beautiful houses of the residents of the area. When Gandhi Nagar was under development, the Housing Board Jammu built up a small market near the Green Belt to set up such shops which will cater to the daily needs of the residents of the area. But over the years on account of greed of certain people and pouring in of the 'Maruti culture', the Green Belt area has become a big, busy business centre, with the result there is not only lot of traffic of motor cars and two wheelers, but of heavy trucks and oil tankers as well. They not only make a lot of noise but are a great risk for the local residents.

During the morning and evening hours some oil tankers are also brought and parked on the road inside the green belt as a result, it, looks less a residential area and more of a truck parking area, which has resulted in very poor maintenance of the road and poor movement of traffic. I do not want that Gandhi Nagar area should also go the Nanak Nagar area, but if no action is taken immediately I am afraid my fears may prove right one day.

It will not be out of place to mention that the State Government has spent crores of rupees of public money in shifting the ware house and other transporters and trucks from the city to its outskirts, build a Transport Nagar, but still people are parking their trucks and tankers in reisdential areas. Moreover, in Jammu city heavy vehicles are not allowed between 6 am and 9 pm, then why they are allowed in Gandhi Nagar.
