Provide mushroom cases

Sir,

During the month of Sept. 2000 a meeting of our villagers was conducted by a Non-Government Organisation known as the Jammu and Kashmir (Environment) Prayavaran Sanstha, Project Dreamland village Suchani (Samba). It was presided by Retd. Major General Goverdhan Singh Jamwal in connection with boosting the production of Mushrooms on domestic level. During this meeting, a thorough demonstration was given by the Mushroom Development Officer and the same was attended by larger number of villagers from the village Suchani (Samba). It was decided there that 2 cases of Mushrooms shall be provided free of cost to many villagers under proper registration. Accordingly, almost 50 villagers were enlisted for this purpose and Sundry i.e. 5th of Nov. 2000 was fixed for this distribution to the registered participants. But the aforesaid organisation sent the cases for distribution a bit earlier i.e on 3rd of Nov. 2000 which was not the date fixed before hand. As a result, the cases of Mushrooms were looted/lifted by the people who were not registered and were not all serious and eager for the production of Mushrooms. Even a single man lifted more than 5-6 cases for one family. Whereas the genuine (Registered) villagers could not get even a single case of Mushrooms. It is as such requested to the concerned NGO to accommodate the remaining Regd. villagers by providing the Mushroom cases to them.

Yours etc....

'Mr Sagar, we are without water'

Sir,

We the helpless residents of Durga Nagar area are so unfortunate that Sagar- the ocean does not show any mercy to us and we only keep our eyes gazing above at the sky, hoping that one day Sagar will send clouds into the sky to shower rain on us and quench our thirst.

We have all hopes attached with Durbar Move, eagerly waiting for Sagar- the Ocean to arrive, cause flood of drinking water and mitigate our worries. Here I refer to the Minister, Mr Ali Mohd. Sagar and I would like to bring to his notice about how miserable our conditions were during hot summer months when Durbar was at Srinagar.

Sagar Sahib, would your gracious self believe that we would, in the scorching heat of summer months, get water only once or twice a week for a short duration of 40 minutes each time? Would your noble self believe that some of us, including me had to purchase water to give a bath to the dead body whenever, tragedy of death occured at our homes? Would you believe that the idols of Lord Shiva in our temples remained completely dry for all the summer months?

The more pathetic story to tell is that in hot summer months old men and women gasped for breath in absence of water in their water coolers. our condition is still worse than the slum dwellers, no water to take a bath daily, no water to wash our clothes and no fresh water to drink. The irregular and negligible water supply compels us to store our drinking water for days together which gets stagnant leaving us with no alternative but to use the stored water which caused intestinal problems to a number of people in our locality. It is a pathetic scene to witness when ladies walk a distance of about 3 Kms from their residence to collect a bucket of water, sweating and gasping, from the main water pump located at the slope of Shiv Mandir road. Some ladies, on many occasions, perspiring with humidity fell unconscious on the road side with their buckets scattered and water spilt all over.

Further every day water tankers rush into Durga Nagar area as the poor residents have to arrange water on cash payment from company Bagh and other areas for Rs 350 to Rs 550 per tanker which is an additional burden on our pockets other than the yearly water charges we pay.

We all look to you for succour and support. We are now tired of making representations, requests, appeals, petitions and there is no energy left in us to make further appeals.

Would your goodself now like a real human being feel the intensity of our problem and find everlasting solution to it. Would you conceive and plan for a big project which will prove beneficial for the residents of Chinore, Roop Nagar Enclave and Durga Nagar Sector I & II and other adjoining areas who are facing shortage of water.

We pray that Sagar- the Ocean of humanity not turn dry for us.

Yours etc....
Maharaj Kishen Koul (Naqaib)
