differences have arisen in Hurriyat
Conference during its special session
last month with some executive members
flaying the amalgams anti-election
stand and role of Pakistan in the affairs of
Jammu and Kashmir. Insiders in the
Conference told PTI a senior executive
member told the special convention that
the anti-election stance adopted by the
Conference was hurting the existance of
the group. The executive member told the
session that several foreign delegates
were even questioning the claim of
Hurriyat leaders of being the sole

between Sonia Gandhi and Jitendra
Prasada for the Congress
president post becomes inevitable
with the dissident leader
sticking to his stand of
remaining in the fray for the
November 12 elections at the
close of withdrawal today. Both
candidates are in the fray, the
Central Election Authority (CEA)
chairman Ram Niwas Mirdha told
PTI at the end of withdrawal.
Prasada, who is taking on Gandhi,
had earlier declared there was no
question of his withdrawal as he
was on a fight unto finish.

to return to active politics and veteran
Marxist leader Jyoti Basu devoting more

bears attacked people at village Rakiban
in Darhal tehsil of Rajouri district this
evening causing serious injuries to five
of them including a woman. One of the
bear was later killed by the villagers
while other escaped into a forest
