IAF to get AJTs soon

Air Chief Marshal A Y Tipnis JAMNAGAR, May 1: Air Chief Marshal A Y Tipnis has said that the long-standing demand of India Air Force (IAF) for the aquisition of Advanced Jet Trainers (AJTs) would be met soon and contracts for such aquisitions would be finalised very shortly. Talking to newspersons at the Air Force base here yesterday, he said a massive programme of modernising and upgrading the existing defence aircraft have been undertaken to enhance IAF’s fire power and equip flying fighter machines with optical imagery cameras. Advani expresses concern over deteriorating internal security

Union Home Minister L K AdvaniGANDHINAGAR, May 1: Union Home Minister L K Advani today expressed concern over the deteriorating internal security in the country and stressed the need for measures to strengthen it. Inaugurating the Rs 9.85 crore Police Bhavan building, constructed to house offices of various police departments here, the Union Home Minister said it was the primary responsibility of the police to maintain a fool-proof security within the country and at the borders. In the last five years, the deteriorating security had led to deployment of black commandos for the VIPs, he said adding that it was time to gain back people’s confidence in the country’s security system. .....more

Jaswant warns Pak against Kargil-like misadventure

JAIPUR, May 1: External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh has said that after giving a befitting reply to Pakistan’s misadventure in Kargil, India has succeeded in diplomatically isolating Pakistan in global arena.

Pakistan had to pay dearly for the Kargil misadventure and would have to suffer in future if it made any more such attempts, Singh said at a function organised by a local daily in the memory of Kargil martyrs here yesterday.

Lauding the Indian armed forces for their commendable job in pushing back Pakistan forces from the icy heights, Singh said Kargil was one of the toughtest challenges for the Army and was very different from 1971 Bangladesh war and IPKF operation in Sri Lanka. . ..more
