Minister for Home Affairs, Mr LK AdvaniNEW DELHI, Mar 1: A multi-modal approach has been planned for sealing the International Border in Jammu region. Giving this information in the Lok Sabha, the Minister for Home Affairs, Mr LK Advani, pointed out the plan to cost about Rs 23 crores will provide fencing, lighting and intruder alarm system (IAS). Mr Advani stated in reply to a question by Mr Amar Roypradhan that the Government planned the multi-modal approach in respect of Jammu’s International Border with a view to preventing infiltration from across the border. Mr Advani informed the House that decision to start this work will be taken at an appropriate time...............more

Mr George FernandesNEW DELHI, Mar 1: The Defence Minister has declared that Indian troops are "alert and vigilant" to effectively meet any threat from Pakistan. Mr George Fernandes stated in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, while responding to a question by Mr Abani Roy, that certain readjustments and reinforcements by Pakistan on the Line of Control (LoC) and in the Sir Creek areas had been reported. Official sources told EXCELSIOR that a group of heavily-armed but masked gunmen appeared at the high security patch of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at around 2100 hours last evening.............more
